Position Overview
The candidate will be a team member of Ice cream RD&I, working on ice-cream category projects for India. We are looking for a candidate with expertise in rigid plastics and in-mould labelling (IML) to join our dynamic team. The responsibility of the position is primarily to support and where relevant, lead & drive the design and development of new packaging initiatives (primary & secondary), cost saving projects & design for channel for the Category based on consumer insights and market/business need. This position will interface with Brand Development, Supply Chain, Product development, Processing, CTI, CMI, and Packaging Suppliers, to drive consumer focused innovative and optimized packaging solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of rigid plastic packaging solutions (tubs, lids, containers) with a focus on IML for the ice cream category.
- Thorough understanding of mold development & management activities along with steps involved in component qualification.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, Marketing, Supply Chain, Procurement, Quality, and suppliers) to deliver packaging projects on time and in full.
- Responsible for Bill of Materials (BOM) management, specification management, and ensuring accuracy and compliance of packaging specifications.
- Handle daily operational activities related to R&D packaging, including documentation, data updates, and coordination with internal systems.
- Assist in scouting and evaluating new materials, technologies, and suppliers to improve packaging performance, sustainability, and cost.
- Translate consumer and market insights into practical packaging concepts and specifications.
- Conduct technical validation, line trials, and qualification of new packaging components.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation, specifications, and test records.
- Support value improvement and cost-saving initiatives while ensuring quality and consumer satisfaction.
- Stay updated on packaging trends, sustainability, and regulatory requirements relevant to Food Packaging.
- Prepare technical drawings, review & sign-off part drawing for component development.
What You’ll Need To Succeed
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree / Master’s degree in Packaging Technology, Polymer Science, Plastics Engineering, or related field.
- Postgraduate Diploma from the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) or equivalent.
- Experience: 2–3 years in rigid packaging development, with hands-on experience in IML technology, preferably in FMCG or food sector.
- Technical Skills:
- Good understanding of rigid plastic materials, processing, and IML decoration.
- Familiarity with packaging validation, testing protocols, and regulatory requirements.
- Awareness of sustainability trends in plastics (PCR, recyclability, lightweighting).
- Ability to work with latest digital tools including AI based platforms as well as design software such as Auto CAD, SolidWorks etc.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills; able to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
- Curious, proactive, and eager to learn and apply new technologies.
- Team player with a collaborative mindset.
- Analytical thinker with attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
