Description

Job Title: Driver (Part-time)

Supervisor:  Transportation Manager

Positions Supervised:  None

FLSA Status:  Non-exempt part-time (3 days per week) or 4 hours per day

 

Job Summary 

Under the general supervision of the Transportation Manager, the Driver is responsible for the direct transportation of physically limited passengers to and from their destinations.  Position requires constant interaction with caregivers and community agencies.

Requirements

Specifications 

Education and Special Training: High School degree or equivalent.

Experience: 1 year experience transporting individuals with special mobility needs, 1 year experience with the frail or elderly preferred; if less than one year, and candidate meets all other requirements, training provided upon hire.

 Licensure, Registry or Certification Required:  Valid North Carolina (NC) Driver’s License and safe driving record.  Upon employment, defensive driving course, First Aid and CPR are required.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment.  Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.    Ability to control personal emotions.  Ability to only act within the scope of his or her authority to practice.  Must meet a standardized set of competencies for the specific position description established by PACE the Triad and approved by CMS before working independently. 

 

With or without reasonable accommodations must have the ability to: bend and/or stoop frequently;    have independent mobility in order to climb stairs and walk distances; lift and position participants of all weights and heights utilizing correct body mechanics; lift and carry pieces of durable medical equipment; lift and transport at least 50 pounds during the course of providing care, treatment and or services; read, write and speak in English; see medical records and various documents clearly; use various forms of communication including but not limited to telephone, computer, faxes etc; hear  spoken communication;  perform repetitive hand and wrist movements. 

 

 

 

Summary

Key Responsibilities  

 

·       Effectively communicates with participants, families, staff and other agencies and departments.

·       Drives a specially equipped van to deliver physically limited persons to varied destinations.  Assures that wheelchair lifts and tie down equipment are properly operated and that participants are delivered to appointments in a timely manner. Follow PACE safety rules at all times.

·       Follows established schedules, adjusts schedules to meet unanticipated changes, determines the safest and most efficient pick-up and delivery routes.

·       Assists passengers on and off the van in a safe and courteous manner.  Handles medical equipment and any emergencies that may arise.

·       Performs van inspections and completes inspection documentation.  Maintains van in a clean, orderly and safe condition.  Reports the need for maintenance.

·       Communicates any changes in participant condition or psychosocial situation to Transportation Manager to be taken to Interdisciplinary Team.

·       Completes documentation as required.

·       Assists with coordination of 24 hour care delivery.

·       Attends staff meetings.

·       Other duties as assigned.

 

Environmental Factors 

Tasks with potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens include, but are not limited to the following:

1.      Assisting participants with incontinence and/or non-intact skin.

 

 Demonstrates knowledge of and supports PACE mission, vision, values, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
