Lower School Long Term Substitute


Pace Academy is an independent college preparatory school in Atlanta, GA, with an enrollment of 1,150 students in Pre-First through 12th grade. The school provides a learning environment that cultivates global citizenship, a spirit of service, respect for differences and strong character in its students. The Lower School division enrolls 360 students from Pre-First through fifth grade, with three homerooms of approximately 20 students at each grade level.


The Long Term Substitute works to provide a positive learning environment for every student. We are seeking long-term substitutes for the Fall of 2026 to cover grades Pre-First - Fifth.  Teachers at this level are highly skilled in how children learn to read, write and develop number sense while facilitating students’ academic, emotional and character development. The Lower School is characterized by joy in learning and in discovery amongst students and teachers. The Lead Teacher is responsible for core academic instruction in reading, writing, mathematics and global studies, and works collaboratively with several specialist teachers. Our curriculum is comprehensive and rigorous.


The ideal candidate works well in a collaborative setting, exhibits good judgment and possesses excellent communication skills with students, their parents, and administrators and faculty. Enthusiasm for teaching, especially young students, is a critical quality. He/she/they should possess a wealth of patience, humor, energy and creativity to reach every student and to work well within a team of teachers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Is committed to the success of every student in his/her/their classroom 

  • With the grade-level teaching team, prepares course objectives and outlines for courses of study

  • Mentors Associate Teacher in all aspects of daily classroom life

  • Discusses and assigns teaching areas with the Associate Teacher to coordinate instructional efforts. This includes preparing lesson plans using a variety of methods and techniques for all learners.

  • Effectively incorporates principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching

  • Models and reinforces the Noble Knights Pillars of Character

  • Reports student progress through regularly scheduled progress reports for parents 

  • Communicates effectively with parents in a timely manner

  • Leads parent-teacher conferences

  • Participates in regular faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops and is committed to sharing and discussing best practices with colleagues

  • Attends after-school faculty meetings, evening parent gatherings and weekend admissions events as necessary

  • Other duties may be assigned


Qualifications:

  • Two years of successful teaching experience at the lower elementary level

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A or B.S) required, master’s degree preferred 

  • Love of young children and their development

  • A positive outlook, flexibility and a collaborative, nurturing nature 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills

  • Strong foundation in the methodologies of teaching core academic subjects, including reading, writing, mathematics and global studies

  • Proficient use of educational technology, including interactive whiteboards

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion practices

  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills

  • Must be able to work on campus, for in-person learning


Working Conditions:

  • Classroom environment that may regularly require the employee to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop or kneel

  • Ability to sit at a computer desk for an extended period

  • Ability to operate a computer, smart board and/or projector

  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 30-50 lbs with assistance
