We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Buyer to join our team and contribute to this mission.
This position is responsible for the purchasing of items to support production and business needs. The position will manage activities in such a manner to purchase items on the optimal delivery schedule while maintaining target inventory levels and costs. Establish and maintain vendor relations, analyze and reconcile problems pertaining to purchasing, accounting, and quality. Support account management, production, inventory control and other site functional areas in all aspects of purchasing activity.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Create and confirm purchase orders each day using ERP.
- Review the demand forecast and historical usage, applying thorough knowledge of the company’s products and business objectives for sound procurement decisions.
- Coordinate with suppliers and logistics to ensure timely and cost-effective receipt of product.
- Maintain adequate inventory levels for assigned ingredients to meet production demands using safety stock, min/max, and/or other-directed criteria.
- Support project management or other teams in meeting deadlines for new and/or changed items.
- Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery, or invoice issues.
- Review production shortages daily.
- Review stock at all sites, expedite products, if necessary.
- Actively work to resolve constraints in the supply chain that impact availability.
- Review all past-due orders and follow up with suppliers to avoid line a shut-down.
- Confirm best date and communicate with the production scheduler and work with logistics to expedite, if necessary.
- Supports cost improvement goals and efforts for the organization.
- Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and advise on any issues which present risk or opportunity to the organization.

Safety Protocol:
- Stop any observed unsafe acts and obey facility safety rules and procedures.
- Correct or report any observed safety hazards.
- Support safety policies and programs.

Requirements
Qualifications:
Education / Experience / Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Packaging Engineering or a related field. Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or business-related field preferred.
- Three to five years previous buying experience required.
- MRP experience is required; must be able to learn and utilize X3, as required.
- Experience in manufacturing company preferred.
- Small company (<500) experience a plus.
- Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
Skills Required:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Problem-solving aptitude and creative thinking ability.
- Learn new skills quickly.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is preferred.

- Ability to operate as a team member on projects and committees.
