35 hours/week

Otsego Public Schools’ staff is the heart of the district, and we are looking to add a Young 5’s classroom aide to our Dix Street Elementary school staff.
Requirements:
- Minimum of High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Experience Working with Students in Elementary School Preferred

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: CLASSROOM AIDE
CONTRACT: All required student days plus any required professional development days* (see OESPA union
contract)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and/or classroom teacher
LOCATION/DEPARTMENT: Dix Street Elementary
POSITION SUMMARY All employees of the Otsego Public Schools, including Classroom Aides, are expected to
display a positive, caring, nurturing attitude and a genuine desire to assist all students and staff when necessary
to maintain a safe and orderly environment. The Classroom Aide acts as an extra pair of eyes, ears, and hands
for the classroom teacher(s). Classroom Aides should possess some basic computer knowledge and be able to
assist students with classroom computer programs.
RECOMMENDED EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Minimum of High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Desire to work with children is mandatory
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Some of the specific duties of an Elementary Classroom Aide include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Work with the other adults in the building toward a positive, productive school environment
● Assist the classroom teacher(s) in meeting the cognitive, emotional and physical needs of the students
● Provide instruction/tutoring for individual and/or small groups of students with proper planning and
supervision of the teacher
● Provide clerical assistance for the classroom teacher(s)
● Supervise and assist individual and/or small groups of students with classroom activities with proper
planning and supervision of the teacher
● Escort and supervise individual students and/or groups of students both in and outside the building as
needed
● Regular and predictable attendance is required
● Other duties as assigned by the building principal or the classroom teacher(s)
From time to time, in emergency situations, it becomes necessary for all adults, including Classroom Aides, to
assist in supervising groups of students and attending to the physical needs of students.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those
that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable
accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While
performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk; occasional stooping,
bending, and reaching. Close vision is required to perform computer related tasks. The employee must have the
ability to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and attend to the personal care of students.
Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
