LOCATION: Split between all Elementaries (2 days at WSE, 2 days at DSE and 1 day at AES)
SUMMARY:
The Elementary School Social Worker provides research based prevention and intervention strategies and plans for both students and staff at the Tier 1 & Tier 2 level. This position also provides direct services to students who have been identified as requiring more intensive and ongoing services (Tier 2 & 3 amount of support) to be able to participate fully and successfully in the educational environment.
Requirements (one of the following):
- Licensed Master’s Level School Social Worker
- Limited Licensed Master’s Level School Social Worker
- Experience in school setting preferred

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
CONTRACT: All required student days plus any required professional development days* (see OEA union
contract)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal(s)
LOCATION/DEPARTMENT: District Elementary Building(s)
POSITION SUMMARY All employees of the Otsego Public Schools, including the Elementary School Social Worker,
are expected to display a positive, caring, nurturing attitude and a genuine desire to assist all students and staff
when necessary to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
Elementary School Social Workers provide therapy to students at the elementary level who have been identified
as requiring more intensive and ongoing services (Tier 3 amount of support) to be able to participate fully and
successfully in the educational environment.
RECOMMENDED EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: (one of the following)
● Licensed Master’s level school social worker
● Limited Licensed master’s level school social worker
EXPERIENCE: Previous experience working in a school setting preferred
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Functions:
● Implement research based social emotional/behavioral intervention and services to students with
trauma, low will, maladaptive behavior, anxiety and emotional behavior/social challenges in
order to support progress and participation in the educational setting.
● Implement data driven prevention and intervention strategies to support both students and staff
in the general education setting. (Tier 2 & 3)
● Provide direct services to students with SSW services on their IEPs according to the goals and
objectives. (Tier 3)
● Provide consultation to teachers, administrators, and other professionals, in implementing plans
and procedures related to the sensory, behavioral, and emotional needs of students. (Tier 2 & 3)
● Provide communication to the parents/guardians of students to ensure a home-school
partnership. (Tier 2 & 3)
● Work with the elementary ancillary team to observe students then conduct and implement
Functional Behavior Assessments, Positive Behavior Intervention Plans (PBIS) at the building level
using the TIENET forms. (Tier 3)
● Facilitate Functional Behavior Assessment and PBIS team meetings
● Collect Data on PBIP plans to document progress or revise plans for student success.
● Facilitate groups in various educational settings to work on social/emotional issues students are

faced with (Tier 1&2)
● Attend grade level meetings, staffing meetings, and Elementary Intervention PLC meetings
● Lead the crisis intervention team at assigned building
● Completes all work assignments and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner.
● Other tasks as assigned by the building principal, Director of Special Education and/or
Superintendent

● Ability to establish and promote a friendly atmosphere
● Ability to remain calm and pleasant under pressure and maintain confidentiality and flexibility
● Exercise confidentiality at all times
● Regular and predictable attendance is required
From time to time, in emergency situations, it becomes necessary for all adults, including Elementary School
Social Workers, to assist in supervising groups of students and attending to the physical needs of students.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those
that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable

bending, and reaching. Close vision is required to perform computer related tasks. The employee must have the

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 month employee, following the Otsego Educational Association contract
