- A degree in education or experience working with middle school aged students in an instructional setting is preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Academic Interventionist Aide
CONTRACT: All required student days plus any required professional development days* (see OESPA contract)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
LOCATION/DEPARTMENT: Assigned Building
POSITION SUMMARY All employees of the Otsego Public Schools, including an academic interventionist aide, are
expected to display a positive, caring, nurturing attitude and a genuine desire to assist all students and staff when
necessary to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
The purpose of the academic interventionist aide is to provide individual and/or small group help for students in
6th through 8th grade. This assistance focuses on necessary reading and math skills. These skills include
knowledge about reading, decoding, comprehension, literature, vocabulary, math facts, higher order thinking
skills and problem solving strategies, advanced math concepts and other content areas as needed.
An Academic Interventionist Aide must be a person of high integrity and moral character. Aides must be able to
assist students with associated computer programs.
As it appears below, “supervisor” refers to the Building Principal.
RECOMMENDED EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Must be “highly qualified” as defined by ESSA (a minimum of 60 college credits or successfully
passing the ETS Paraprofessional Test). A degree in education or experience working with students in an
instructional setting is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Experience working with youth preferred
SKILLS: Basic computer knowledge.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Specific expectations include:
● The ability to work with the other adults in the building toward a positive, productive school environment
● Possess and demonstrate good communication skills
● Possess and demonstrate a positive, personable, kind and courteous attitude
● Possess specific skills and abilities to implement the prescribed curriculum
● Regular and predictable attendance is required
Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
● Assist in progress monitoring as instructed by the teacher, record the data and provide the data to the
classroom teacher or supervisor, progress monitoring as instructed by the teacher
● Attend building data meetings
● Carry out a schedule as directed by the supervisor
● Provide tutoring for individual and/or small groups of students in a pull out or inclusion program.

● Assist the classroom teachers in the organization of materials and lessons
● Provide regular classroom teachers feedback regarding students in the program as required by the program
or requested by the supervisor
● Assist with the data collection, record and present to the teacher or supervisor
● Assist with the implementation of individual student learning prescriptions and assessments
● Maintain professional confidentiality both in the school and out in the community
● Maintain a log of all work done and submits copies to the supervisor
● Other duties as assigned by the building principal
From time to time, in emergency situations, it becomes necessary for all adults, including the aides, to assist in
escorting and/or supervising groups of students and attending to the physical needs of students.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those
that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable

performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk; occasional stooping,
bending, and reaching. Close vision is required to perform computer related tasks. The employee must have the
ability to lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
