The Physical Therapist Aide is responsible for preparing patients for physical therapy treatments and assists Physical Therapists and Physical Therapy Assistants during administration of treatments. They also provide routine treatments to patients.


**THIS POSITION IS 10+hrs/wk**

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants during outpatient orthopedic treatment sessions
  • Assist with patient transport, positioning, and basic mobility needs while ensuring safety
  • Prepares patients for physical therapy treatments, assists during administration of treatments, and gives routine treatments.
  • Assists patients to dress, undress, put on, remove and adjust supportive devices such as braces, splints, and slings, before and after treatments.
  • Secures patients into or onto therapy equipment.
  • Apply and remove basic orthopedic equipment (e.g., resistance bands, weights, braces, slings) as instructed
  • Safeguards, motivates, and assists patients practicing exercises and functional activities under direction of      Physical Therapist and Physical Therapy Assistant.
  • Provide verbal cues and basic instruction for exercises as directed by licensed staff
  • Observe patient tolerance and response to treatment and promptly communicate concerns to the therapist
  • Cleans, organizes, and disinfects work area and equipment after treatment
  • Maintain inventory, stock supplies, and assist with supply requisition
  • Changes towels and pillowcases.
  • Support front-desk and clinic operations as needed, including scheduling assistance and patient flow management
  • Deliver excellent customer service and contribute to a welcoming, team-oriented clinic culture
  • Comply with all out-patient orthopedic clinic policies, safety standards, and HIPAA regulations

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

     

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent. 
  • Prior experience in outpatient orthopedics, physical therapy, fitness, athletic training, or customer service preferred

     

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required or ability to obtain upon hire.

Physical Requirements

  • This position works in a typical medical environment. There are regular interruptions and significant distractions to work including, but not limited to: phones ringing; staff walking by; patients to attend to; noisy conversations that carry; and answering questions asked by others. The person in this position must frequently communicate with patients, doctors, coworkers, and others verbally as well as utilizing various equipment such as telephones, cell phones, text/instant messaging, email, and other means.
  • This position frequently moves around the clinic for up to 12 hours a day; and frequently assists patients in turning or sitting in a bed on a daily basis; as well as assists patients with rising from a bed or gurney, transferring to a wheelchair, and/or returning to a bed or wheelchair. This position also frequently pushes wheelchairs and must be able to move or lift up to 50 pounds.
