Role: The Collections Specialist I is responsible for collecting delinquent payments and providing member service regarding collection issues. Additional duties include performing various administrative tasks vital to the day-to-day function of the department.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Locates and advises members of delinquent loans, including student loans, by telephone and/or mail and requests payment. Services the needs of members who have placed inbound calls to the department.
- Assists the department with various administrative tasks and provides support with end of the month reporting.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Experience: Six months or more of experience processing transactions and delivering customer service in a banking or credit union environment is required. One or more years of experience in a banking or credit union collections environment is preferred.
Education: A high school diploma or GED.
Other skills required:
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Google Workspace, including Gmail, Google Docs and Google Sheets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required with the ability to effectively interact and make recommendations to all levels of the organization
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills and reasoning ability required
- Must possess excellent time management skills and be accustomed to working with deadlines
- Must be detail-oriented and be able to maintain a high level of accuracy
