Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate educator to join our team at Locust Grove Middle as a Reading Specialist. This full-time position is designed for an individual who is committed to fostering a love for reading and improving literacy skills among students. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in reading instruction, assessment, and intervention strategies, and will work collaboratively with teachers, students, and parents to promote literacy development.
Responsibilities
- Assess students' reading abilities and identify areas for improvement through various evaluation tools and methods.
- Develop and implement individualized reading intervention plans tailored to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Provide direct instruction to students in small groups or one-on-one settings, focusing on reading comprehension, fluency, and phonics.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate reading strategies into the curriculum and support literacy development across all subjects.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
- Conduct professional development workshops for teachers to enhance their understanding of effective reading instruction and intervention techniques.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and strategies for supporting reading at home.
- Stay current with research and best practices in reading instruction and literacy development.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives and committees aimed at promoting literacy and a culture of reading within the school community.
- Maintain accurate records of student assessments, interventions, and progress reports.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, or a related field;
- Valid teaching certification with an endorsement or specialization in Reading.
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, preferably in middle school or a related setting.
- Strong knowledge of reading assessment tools and intervention strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Passion for reading and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
- Ability to analyze data and use it to inform instruction and intervention practices.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance instruction and student engagement.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
**Salary scale based on the 2025-2026 school year.
