Database Engineer - Autonomous Recovery Service (RCV)
About the Team
The Autonomous Recovery Service (RCV) team delivers highly available, secure, and resilient cloud services that protect Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) customer data. Our mission is to give customers confidence that they can recover from planned and unplanned events through leading recovery capabilities, intelligent automation, and operational excellence.
The Role
- As a Database Engineer, you will help operate and improve mission-critical cloud services that protect customer data at OCI scale. This operations-first role combines production ownership with software engineering and automation: you will strengthen reliability, reduce operational toil, and improve the customer experience across the service lifecycle.
- You will work on deployments, patching, upgrades, monitoring, incident response, root cause analysis, observability, and automation. You will partner with software, cloud infrastructure, and database engineering teams to build resilient, scalable services.
- We use AI-assisted engineering and operational tools to accelerate development, analysis, troubleshooting, and documentation. Sound engineering judgment remains essential to validate results and deliver dependable solutions.
What You Will Do
- Operate and maintain RCV production environments, with a focus on service health, availability, security, and reliability.
- Execute deployments, patching, upgrades, security updates, infrastructure maintenance, and production changes using established procedures.
- Monitor services, investigate alerts, troubleshoot issues, and help restore service in support of Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
- Participate in an on-call rotation, with senior-engineer guidance, to support production availability.
- Contribute to incident response, root cause analysis, post-incident reviews, and corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
- Develop and maintain software, scripts, and automation that simplify operations, improve resilience, and reduce repetitive work.
- Build Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions with Terraform to provision, configure, and manage OCI resources.
- Analyze logs, metrics, and operational data to identify trends and recommend performance and reliability improvements.
- Improve monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and observability to increase operational visibility and accelerate diagnosis.
- Support capacity planning, performance optimization, and scalability initiatives.
- Help manage Oracle Database environments, including backup, restore, recovery validation, and disaster recovery using Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN).
- Create automation using Python, Bash/Shell, REST APIs, and related scripting technologies.
- Use Git, Bitbucket, and CI/CD workflows to collaborate on reliable, maintainable engineering solutions.
- Document operational procedures, troubleshooting guidance, and lessons learned to strengthen team readiness.
- Continuously build expertise in OCI, Oracle Database, RCV architecture, SRE, Terraform, automation, and AI-assisted engineering.
