Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Optometrist role based at Peekay Eye Care Hospital in Thalassery. The Optometrist will perform comprehensive eye examinations, including refraction, binocular vision assessment, and evaluation of ocular health. Daily responsibilities include prescribing and fitting glasses and contact lenses, advising patients on visual hygiene and preventive care, and identifying ocular conditions that require medical or surgical management. The Optometrist will collaborate with ophthalmologists and other clinical staff to coordinate patient care, maintain accurate clinical records, and support patient education. The role also involves participating in clinical protocols, adhering to ethical and regulatory standards, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives within the hospital.
Qualifications
- Clinical optometry skills, including refraction, binocular vision assessment, and basic contact lens fitting.
- Ability to recognize and co-manage common ocular diseases and conditions, referring appropriately to ophthalmologists when needed.
- Strong patient communication skills, including clear explanation of diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive eye care practices.
- Competence in maintaining accurate patient records and using clinical documentation or electronic health record systems.
- Relevant educational background such as a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optometry from an accredited institution.
- Valid professional registration or license to practice optometry as required by local regulations.
