Key responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive eye tests to assess vision and eye health.
- Measure visual acuity, depth perception, and eye coordination.
- Identify refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.
- Detect early signs of eye diseases like glaucoma and cataracts.
- Prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses based on patient needs.
- Provide recommendations for lens types and coatings.
- Manage minor eye conditions and prescribe medications if permitted.
- Provide vision therapy and preventive eye care.
- Educate patients on eye care, hygiene, and proper use of lenses.
- Advise on lifestyle habits to maintain eye health.
- Operate instruments such as autorefractors, slit lamps, and tonometers.
- Ensure accurate test results and proper equipment maintenance.
- Document examination results, prescriptions, and patient history.
- Maintain accurate records for follow-up care.
- Refer patients to ophthalmologists for advanced treatment or surgery.
- Work with optical staff and healthcare teams
Required qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Optometry (B.Optom)
Registration with relevant optometry council (if applicable)
Experience in clinic, hospital, or optical center preferred
