About The Role
The Operator role at Commscope is a vital position responsible for the manufacturing of cord assemblies using advanced processes and machinery. The primary focus is to produce high-quality cord assemblies that meet all technical and quality standards while optimizing costs, minimizing scrap, and reducing waste. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Operators will work closely with team leaders, process engineers, and supervisors to ensure production efficiency and product quality. Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience in manufacturing or assembly operations is preferred but not mandatory, as training will be provided. Basic proficiency in reading technical drawings, route sheets, and work orders is essential. Candidates should demonstrate good manual dexterity, attention to detail, and the ability to operate machinery safely. Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems is advantageous. Strong communication skills, teamwork orientation, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are critical qualities for this position. Candidates must also adhere to safety and environmental standards, including materials recycling procedures.
Responsibilities
The Operator will be responsible for executing manufacturing tasks according to specified route sheets, drawings, and work orders. Key duties include retrieving components, tools, and consumables from designated areas and preparing the work area for production. Operating cutting machines to accurately cut cordage to required lengths within specified tolerances is a core responsibility. The role involves preparing cordage using appropriate tools, assembling and installing various connectors on different cord lengths, and performing jointing operations as needed. Operators must pack cords securely into boxes or cartons, ensuring proper identification and labeling.
Preventive maintenance and minor breakdown repairs of manufacturing equipment are part of daily duties, along with changing dies and tooling on presses and cutting machines when necessary. Rejecting defective or non-conforming cords and components, and documenting such rejections according to standard procedures, is essential to maintain quality standards. Accurate completion of paperwork, SAP transactions, and updating reports, log sheets, and spares lists are required to ensure traceability and accountability.
Operators are responsible for self-inspecting their work to ensure quality and quantity standards are met. They may assist engineering teams with experimental or process improvement activities and are expected to adhere to safety, housekeeping, and environmental procedures, including materials recycling protocols. Operating Zebra printers for labeling and ensuring compliance with special markings or requirements detailed in work orders are additional responsibilities. The role also involves maintaining a clean and organized work environment to support operational efficiency and safety.
Judgment calls include inspecting raw materials and finished goods at various stages, with the authority to reject non-conforming items. The role requires proactive participation in continuous improvement initiatives and adherence to ISO 9001 quality standards. Overall, the Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless production of high-quality cord assemblies that meet customer specifications and company standards.
