About the role

Job Purpose

Under the direction of the National Director of HR Operations, the HRIS & HR Specialist for Open Sky Education is responsible for managing and maintaining the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to ensure data accuracy, system functionality, and reporting capabilities. This role also serves as a backup for Benefits Administration and HR Operations, assisting with benefits enrollment, HR compliance, and employee inquiries as needed. Additionally, the HRIS & HR Coordinator will lead and facilitate new hire orientation to ensure smooth onboarding experience for employees. The ideal candidate is tech-savvy, detail-oriented, and has a passion for HR operations and systems management. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, data integrity management, and the ability to support HR functions as needed.

S/he will work closely with the Finance & Payroll, Data & Applications, and schools to provide a wide range of quality HRIS and HR services to all levels of team members throughout the entire organization.

Essential Responsibilities And Competencies

HRIS Management & System Administration

  • Manage and maintain the HRIS system, ensuring accurate and up-to-date employee records.
  • Serve as the primary HRIS administrator, handling user setup, system configurations, and troubleshooting.
  • Generate and analyze HR reports and dashboards (headcount, turnover, compliance tracking, etc.)
  • Ensure HRIS data integrity by conducting regular audits and reconciliation.
  • Provide training and support to employees and managers on HRIS self-service features.
  • Provide leadership with the necessary automated reports requested.
  • Collaborate with Data & Applications (IT), payroll, and Talent Acquisition to enhance system functionality and integrations.

HR Orientation and Onboarding

  • Lead and facilitate new hire orientation sessions, ensuring consistent and engaging onboarding experience.
  • Prepare and distribute orientation materials, including company policies and HR procedures.
  • Assist new employees with HRIS account setup, benefits enrollment, and required documentation.
  • Track and follow up on onboarding tasks, ensuring compliance with company and legal requirements.
  • Conduct new hire surveys at 30-, 60-, and 90-day marks.

Backup Support For Benefits & HR Operations

  • Assist with benefits administration during peak periods or when the Benefits Specialist is unavailable.
  • Support employees with benefits enrollment, eligibility questions, and claims. assistance.
  • Provide backup support to the HR Operations Manager for HR compliance, policies, and employee relations tasks (i.e. trackers)
  • Help coordinate open enrollment, benefits orientations, and wellness initiatives.
  • Assist in managing HR processes related to leave of absence, FMLA, and workers’ compensation when needed.

General HR Support & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with HR policies, employment laws, and company procedures.
  • Maintain employee records, including confidential personnel files and HR documentation.
  • Assist in updating HR policies, employee handbooks, and internal communications.
  • Support various HR projects and process improvements as assigned.

  • Agrees to engage in the faith life of our scholars and in collaboration with other team members
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration or related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years’ experience in HRIS administration, HR coordination, or HR operations.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Experience with HRIS platforms, prefer Paycor
    • Strong excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)
    • Comfortable troubleshooting HR system issues and supporting employees with system use.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to conduct engaging orientation sessions.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Problem-Solving: Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and resolve system or process issues.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with HR analytics and system reporting
  • Familiarity with benefits administration, FMLA, and HR compliance requirements.

Work Location

This is primarily an on-site role working mostly from our National Office located in Waukesha, WI. Remote work flexibility of up to two (2) days per week may be granted with approval from the National Director of HR Operations. However, depending on business needs, in-office attendance may be requested up to five (5) days per week.
