Job description

Opal Foods is accepting applications for the position of Lead for our Layer Farm in Hudson, CO. This position is a hands-on working position that oversees any issues related to the birds’ feed, water, air, and overall health, as well as supervising all house-hands at the assigned facility. Ensures proper training of house hands and their compliance with all company policies and governmental regulations. This position works in the laying hen houses and must be able to work in a farm/live animal environment. Will also assist the Production Manager with other projects and duties as needed. Previous experience working at a layer farm a plus. Pay determined based on relevant experience.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintain work schedules for all house hands
  • Help with Compliance Technician responsibilities (ex. drawing blood samples from birds, see Compliance Technician job description)
  • Prepare sample eggs using approved packaging for mailing to testing labs
  • Ensure house hands are trained on job responsibilities
  • Assign tasks and provide overall guidance
  • Ensure house hands have needed supplies
  • Help house hands maintain reports and reporting accuracy (mortality, feed, water, etc.)
  • Euthanize sick/debilitated birds when necessary following company humane animal handling procedures and policies; train new team members to do so according to these standards. (Team members must be trained before completing this task.)
  • Help with other house hand responsibilities as needed
  • Help clean out and prepare houses between flocks

Physical Requirements of a Maintenance Technician:

  • Fast paced work environment
  • Lift fifty or more pounds on a regular basis
  • Bend, lift, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb
  • Work in a dusty farm environment around live animals

Requirements: (knowledge, experience, skills, education)

  • Previous house hand (or similar) experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others
  • Demonstrated attention to details
  • Demonstrated good work ethic
  • Available to be scheduled for work 7 days a week including holidays
  • Ability to speak, read and write in English
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
