About the role

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of College and Career Pathways serves as a central leader within the Teaching & Learning Team responsible for designing, implementing, coordinating, and supporting a comprehensive K-12 college and career pathway system. The Director leads through collaboration, service, and system design to support schools, families, and community partners to ensure all OSD students are prepared for college, career, and community.

This leader ensures alignment, compliance, leadership, and high-quality implementation of:

● Career & Technical Education Programs

● Graduation Pathways

● Dual Credit Systems (AP, IB, CTE, College in the High School, Running Start)

● Online learning for credit retrieval and summer school

● High School & Beyond Plan (HSBP) systems

● Comprehensive K-12 Counseling program

● Enrollment and state reporting systems

● Federal and state grant management & progress monitoring

This position emphasizes:

Core Areas of Responsibility

The leader in this position partners across industry, district and schools to lead efforts within Career and Technical Education.

1. Career & Technical Education Leadership

a. Provide districtwide oversight of CTE programs of study, pathway alignment, and program evaluation.

b. Support building administrators and CTE teachers with implementation, compliance, and instructional quality aligned to district instructional initiatives.

c. Ensure alignment with state and federal program and reporting requirements

d. Oversee IRC alignment and reporting

e. Coordinate advisory committees and industry partnerships


2. College & Career Readiness (CCR) Leadership

a. Lead district systems for graduation pathways, transcripts & equivalency credits, course alignment & catalog development, course proposal and approval process, NCAA compliance, K-12 Comprehensive School Counseling Program, Washington’s Guaranteed Admissions Program, High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP)

b. Ensure alignment of district and building work with program frameworks (CTE, ASCA, MTSS)

3. Lead Dual Credit and Advanced Learning Programs

a. Oversee and coordinate AP, IB, College in the High School, Running Start, New Market, CTE and other articulated dual credit agreements

b. Support STAMP dual credit opportunity for world language proficiency

c. Clear communication to counselors, families, school leaders, and dual credit partners

4. Online Learning and Summer School Leadership

a. Oversee and manage district online learning platform(s)

b. Coordinate summer school programming and credit retrieval options

Must demonstrate a successful level of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

● Demonstrated knowledge of culturally responsive and sustaining educational practices, with the ability to support schools in creating inclusive learning environments and expanding equitable access to advanced coursework, career pathways, and postsecondary opportunities.

● Commitment to equity and reducing disproportionality, including the ability to analyze data related to student participation, outcomes, and discipline in order to identify and address systemic barriers impacting historically marginalized student populations.

● Skill in conducting program reviews and continuous improvement cycles, including the ability to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data, engage stakeholders in reflection, and develop actionable recommendations to strengthen program effectiveness and student outcomes.

● Ability to design and facilitate high-quality adult learning, including professional development, coaching, and collaborative learning structures that build staff capacity and support implementation of district initiatives.

● Demonstrated ability to lead and manage organizational change, including communicating a clear vision, engaging diverse stakeholders, and supporting schools and staff through complex system improvements.

● Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments, schools, families, and community partners in order to align programs and resources that support student success.

● Experience and understanding of funding, legal, and accountability expectations related to CTE practices to include industry professional partnerships, OSPI and PESB professional growth expectations, college and career readiness, CTE sequence graduation pathways.

● In-depth understanding of industry partnerships, acquisition & weaving of diverse funding streams, work-based learning, labor unions & associations, career research, student engagement in clubs for impact, graduation expectations, dual credits, multi-year complex programmatic planning & evaluation, economic forecasts that impact pathways for learning, industry-based professional growth, and alternative learning models, partnership through government-to-government relations, and project-based learning.

● Experience successfully working with Business Offices to create and manage budgets based on FTE and apportionment in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

● Demonstrated knowledge of technology, or ability to readily learn technical systems, including: Schoology, EDS, Google Workspace, OSPI Report Card and Tableau, SchooLinks, etc.

● Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Danielson Framework.

● Proven ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, including public speaking.

● Ability to analyze complex situations, synthesize diverse information and perform trend analysis.

● Ability to function in an environment characterized by potential for high levels of stress.

● Ability to provide guidance and direction to staff.

● Ability to facilitate and promote collaborative decision-making.

● Ability to make effective independent decisions as necessary.

● Ability to manage and complete multiple high-priority projects and maintain strict adherence to time and budgetary constraints.

● Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of others both within and outside of the district.

● Demonstrated leadership skills.


Desired Qualifications:

● Experience as a school administrator, preferred. Experience as a Career and Technical Director, preferred.

● Ability to create an inspiring vision for programming that promotes student learning, job satisfaction and collective efficacy.

● Ability to develop a culture of continuous learning where open and honest contributions from staff occur with confidence and respect for others’ ideas.

● Ability to communicate, cultivate cross-functional district partnerships, and collaborate with schools in support of student success is essential to this position alongside the ability to create conditions for others to succeed.


Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

● Valid WA State CTE Administrator Certificate, Principal Certificate, or Program Administrator Certificate, required.

● Valid WA State CTE Teaching or equivalent educator credential and related experience, required.

● Valid Driver’s License and evidence of insurability, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
