Job Purpose: As an Overman, the primary responsibility is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of mining activities within the assigned area. Key tasks include taking over shift charge, supervising dump management, face management, drain management, dewatering, haul road maintenance, conducting inspections to ensure bench and OB dump stability, reviewing blasting schedules, and enforcing safety measures such as proper haul road maintenance and dust control. Additionally, the role involves monitoring manpower and equipment usage, maintaining records as per DGMS guidelines, and promptly addressing any safety hazards or incidents to ensure a secure working environment.
Responsibilities
Operational Oversight
- Supervise magazine operations, including verification of explosive receipt against approved challans and DGMS licenses.
- Monitor proper storage conditions—correct quantity limits, magazine hygiene, fire and theft prevention.
- Maintain accurate records of explosive issues, returns, stock balances, and statutory registers under CMR 2017 and Mines Act 1952.
- Conduct routine inspections of magazine facilities, equipment, and secure perimeters.
Strategic Planning & Resource Allocation
- Estimate daily/weekly explosives requirements based on blast schedules.
- Coordinate with blasting teams to ensure timely issuance and avoid operational delays.
- Manage magazine staff schedules for continuous oversight and prevent lapses during off‑shifts or handovers.
Technical Expertise & Methodology Enhancement
- Apply DGMS and BIS guidelines (e.g., CMR 2017 Reg. 183) to segregate explosive categories and maintain safe separation distances.
- Conduct periodic checks of explosive integrity—checking for moisture, packaging damage, and expiry—before issuance.
- Identify and implement efficiency improvements in magazine workflows and record‑keeping practices.
Safety Compliance & Risk Management
- Enforce regulatory safety protocols per CMR 2017 and Mines Act provisions, ensuring access control, signage, and emergency preparedness.
- Maintain exclusion zones and enforce access only to certified personnel with valid Blasting Certificates.
- Promptly report discrepancies, near‑misses, or security breaches to mine management and DGMS authorities.
- Coordinate magazine audits and inspections with DGMS, PESO, and local authorities; act on recommendations promptly.
Qualifications
Educational Qualification:
Essential: Diploma in Mining/Any other Branch of Engineering with overman certificate
Desired: No colour blindness
