Role Description The Chief Data Officer (CDO) is a full-time remote role responsible for leading the enterprise data vision, strategy, and execution. The CDO oversees data governance frameworks, policies, and standards, ensuring data is secure, compliant, and ethically used across all business functions. Day-to-day work includes partnering with executives and department leaders to identify data needs, prioritize initiatives, and align data programs with business goals. The CDO leads data management and data quality efforts, directs the development of scalable data architectures, and supervises teams involved in data science, analytics, and business intelligence. The role involves monitoring key data performance indicators, championing data literacy and education, managing vendor and technology relationships, and ensuring that data investments deliver measurable value.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in data governance and data management, including policies, standards, and lifecycle management.
- Proficiency in data quality practices, with experience designing and implementing controls, metrics, and remediation processes.
- Advanced analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and translate insights into strategic recommendations.
- Hands-on experience with data science concepts and tools, and leading teams that build predictive and prescriptive models.
- Proven leadership experience in senior data or analytics roles, ideally in complex or multi-business-unit environments.
- Familiarity with modern data architectures and platforms (e.g., data warehouses, data lakes, cloud-based data solutions).
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at executive and board levels.
- Experience establishing data literacy programs and change management initiatives related to data adoption.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or Business; an advanced degree is a plus.
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements related to data privacy, security, and ethical data use.
