About the role

Core Functions 

  • Delivers patient meal trays within 10 minutes of preparation and verifies patient identity before service
  • Double-checks tray accuracy prior to delivery
  • Recognizes patients unable to communicate food preferences and responds appropriately
  • Greets patients courteously when delivering meals
  • Communicates effectively with co-workers regarding food production and with nursing staff to confirm diet orders
  • Stocks nourishment centers and doctors’ lounge daily, ensuring all areas are fully stocked before end of shift
  • Fills department requisitions as needed
  • Prepares carts and assists with tray-line at designated times
  • Retrieves trays from patient rooms on schedule
  • Maintains cleanliness of beverage refrigerator and dry storage areas
  • Unloads and stores grocery deliveries on Mondays and Thursdays
  • Assists with special function setups as time permits
  • Supports co-workers in completing tasks and maintains flexibility under pressure
  • Adheres to infection control procedures and DNV/ISO 9001 standards
  • Provides age-appropriate service for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. 

 

Professional Responsibility 

  • Adheres to dress code; maintains a neat and professional appearance
  • Wears identification badge and uses timekeeping system correctly
  • Reports to work on time and completes tasks within scheduled hours
  • Completes all required annual education, in-services, and physical exams on time
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory and infection control standards
  • Attends at least 75% of staff meetings; reviews and returns meeting minutes as required
  • Ensures patient confidentiality at all times
  • Actively participates in departmental and hospital-wide initiatives
  • Communicates and upholds the hospital’s mission, ethics, and departmental goals. 

  

Education: 

  • High school diploma or GED required. 

Skills: 

  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is preferred.
  • Basic computer literacy required.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety and sanitation standards.
