Job Description:

Haile Gold Mine is seeking a driven Drill and Blast Engineer to join our Open Pit Planning Team. As a Drill and Blast Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in planning, designing, and optimizing our open pit operation. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment with a talented team of professionals committed to operational excellence and safety.

  • Develop and optimize drill and blast plans in collaboration with engineering, geology, and mine operations teams to maximize production efficiency while aligning with mid-range and Life of Mine (LOM) strategic plans.
  • Design drill patterns, blast timing sequences, and activity schedules for short-range operational plans, ensuring technical feasibility and safety compliance.
  • Prepare and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly drill and blast plans with detailed documentation and scheduling requirements.
  • Monitor pit sequencing and highwall stability to support safe, efficient mining operations and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Analyze bench plan compliance, weekly and monthly variances, and production metrics to identify gaps and recommend continuous improvements.
  • Conduct regular highwall compliance monitoring and document findings to ensure adherence to safety and operational standards.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional departments to ensure drill and blast plans align with overall production goals and operational timelines.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to operations teams to facilitate achievement of short-range and long-range mine plans.
  • Prepare end-of-month reporting for active mining areas, summarizing performance metrics and operational outcomes.

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field (Geology, Civil Engineering, or equivalent)
  • Proficiency with mine planning software (Deswik and/or Vulcan)
  • 2+ years of experience in mining operations, mine planning, or related engineering discipline
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to interpret complex data and technical information
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to prepare clear technical documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities independently and work collaboratively within cross-functional teams
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and time management capabilities

Preferred:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification in mining or civil engineering
  • Experience with open pit mine planning and optimization
  • Familiarity with pit sequencing, highwall stability analysis, and blast design principles
  • Experience coordinating with geology, operations, and engineering teams on integrated mine planning
  • Knowledge of mining safety standards and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Experience with production scheduling and variance analysis
