Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Language Arts (ELA) teacher for the 2026/2027 academic year at Oakville Middle School/High School. The ideal candidate will inspire students to develop their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills while fostering a love for literature and language. This full-time position requires a commitment to creating an engaging and inclusive classroom environment that supports the diverse needs of all learners.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans aligned with state standards and curriculum guidelines.
- Teach a range of ELA courses, including literature, composition, and language arts, to students in grades 6-12.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
- Assess student progress through various methods, including tests, projects, and presentations, and provide constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary projects and initiatives that enhance student learning.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and administration regarding student performance and classroom activities.
- Support students in developing critical thinking and analytical skills through discussions, writing assignments, and group activities.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Uphold the values and mission of Oakville MS/HS while promoting respect, responsibility, and academic integrity among students.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification in English Language Arts for middle and high school levels.
- Proven experience teaching ELA at the middle or high school level, with a strong understanding of curriculum development preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Proficiency in using technology and digital resources to enhance instruction and engage students.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Knowledge of current educational practices and trends in English Language Arts education.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to the overall success of the school community.

• Prepare teaching materials and reports for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing
documentation of teacher and student progress
• Monitor student activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment
• Report incidents (child abuse, fights, substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of
students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to education code and district and school
policies, refer to intervention and participate on intervention team as required
• Provide an exceptional educational experience to all students; communicate an enthusiasm for learning, engage
in student goal setting
• Provide clear and focused instruction for all students by using a variety of teaching strategies to meet the needs
of all students to assure successful learning through a defined course of study
• Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teachers’ expectations,
developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment
• Frequently assess and monitor students for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and
administration (regularly on weekly and monthly basis) regarding student progress, expectations, and goals by
using quality classroom-based assessments, and formal standardized assessments
• Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the
quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, and planning curriculum and willingness to work with grade
level team
• Direct instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school
program and addressing the needs of individual students and be supportive of parent volunteers in the
classroom
• Utilize district adopted curriculum to guide instruction
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment for
learning, which include campus and building wide common standards, discipline system, and common
expectations

Minimum Qualifications
• A valid Washington State teaching certificate
• Endorsement in English Language Arts
• Must comply with all District rules and regulations
