Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Oakville Elementary. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs. This full-time position involves collaborating with educators, parents, and support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that promote academic and social growth for each student.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the needs of students.
- Assess and evaluate student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in both one-on-one and small group settings.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns.
- Work closely with support staff, including paraprofessionals and therapists, to ensure the delivery of appropriate services.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and IEP documentation.
- Foster a sense of community within the classroom and promote social skills development among students.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including those with physical, emotional, and developmental disabilities preferred.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to create and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to individual student needs.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

The job of Special Education & Grades P-5 Teacher is supporting student success in pre-academics /academics,
interpersonal skills and activities of functional daily living through implementing District approved curriculum;
documenting teaching as well as student progress, activities, outcomes; addressing specific needs of student; providing
a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding
student progress, expectations, goals, etc. This position is for the 2026/2027 school year.

● Assesses student’s functional life and daily living skills (behavioral, motor development, communication,
personal care, safety, etc.) and cognitive needs (e.g. developmental level, vocational abilities, etc.) for the
purpose of evaluating students and family requirements, placement and success of the student’s program.
● Collaborates with school personnel, agencies and community agencies (e.g. social service agencies, caretakers,
etc.) for the purpose of developing and modifying the program to maximize the quality of student outcomes,
developing solutions and planning curriculum.
● Develops, monitors and evaluates specially designed instructional programs for the students on his/her
caseload.
● Directs instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school
program and addressing the needs of individual students.
● Instructs students with individualized special needs for the purpose of developing appropriate functional daily
living skills, personal care, safety and cognitive needs using research based instructional techniques and
strategies.
● Manages individual students’ schedules and needs for the purpose of providing a safe and an optimal learning
environment.
● Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g. attendance, anecdotal records, performance data, etc.) for the
purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher instruction and student
progress.
● Provides a program for life skills special education students which meet applicable district, state and federal
requirements as they apply to the specific student
● Reports incidents (i.e. suspected child abuse, neglect, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of
students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school
policies.

• Frequently assess and monitor students for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and

using quality classroom-based assessments, and formal standardized assessments

Minimum Qualifications
• A valid Washington State teaching certificate
• Endorsement in Special Education
• Must comply with all District rules and regulations
• Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation and fingerprint clearance
• Demonstrated knowledge of IEP development & compliance
• Strong collaboration & communication skills
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time throughout the school day
• Ability to sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach as needed to support students
• Ability to physically assist students with mobility, positioning, and personal care, if required by Individualized
Education Programs (IEPs)
• Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations
• Ability to implement approved behavioral intervention strategies, which may include safely supporting or
redirecting in accordance with district policy
• Sufficient visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and families
• Ability to operate classroom technology and instructional equipment
