Job Description
Middle School Bible Faculty
Full-Time, Exempt, Category 1
Salary Range $60,000-$90,000
Reports to: Head of Bible, Discipleship, and Spiritual Life
General
This role is for someone who loves God, His Word, and people—someone who enjoys working in a collaborative working environment, loves teaching, and building relationships with students. The position reports directly to the Head of Bible, Discipleship, and Spiritual Life, and works closely with the TK-8th-grade Principal and Co-chair of the Bible Department.
Primary Duties
Spiritual Commitment and Growth
· Has a dynamic, growing faith and is a spiritual role model for students
· Upholds the school’s statement of faith in both belief and practice
· Actively involved in a local church
· Helps foster an atmosphere of grace at OCS
Classroom Management
· Maintains a disciplined learning environment within the classroom, which is built out of respect, grace, and passion for their subject
· Available to students and parents before and after school
Course Management
· Maintains an organized plan for each assigned course, including subject-matter outlines and daily lesson plans
· Adheres to established curriculum guidelines while enriching course content whenever possible
· Adept at using cutting-edge technology to create meaningful, real-world learning experiences
o Candidates should demonstrate specific examples of using technology to extend learning beyond the classroom.
· Pursues ongoing professional growth and stays current with instructional best practices
· Engages regularly in professional reading (books and journals)
· Updates AXIS (Blackbaud LMS) promptly: grades within one assignment cycle, homework posted in real time, and tests posted at least one week in advance
· Posts all assessments on the exam calendar at least two weeks in advance
· Prepares grade reports, progress reports, and attendance reports in accordance with school policy
Professional Responsibilities and Duties
· Fulfills all duties in a timely manner (begins class on time, meets deadlines, attends meetings punctually, etc.)
· Committed to ongoing growth in subject-matter expertise and instructional methodology
· Responds to parent communications within 24 hours
· Cultivates warm, professional relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members
· Attends meetings and sits on committees as assigned by the administration
· Willingly participates in the OCS community beyond school hours
· Attends mandatory events related to admissions and extracurricular activities
· Fosters genuine connection with advisory students during chapel
· Attends Grade Level Retreat trips
· Faithfully fulfills reasonable extra-duty assignments (supervision, mentoring, academic help hours, etc.)
· Abides by the spirit and policies in the OCS Faculty Handbook and OCS Grades 5-8 Faculty Guidelines, Instructional Best Practice
Advisory
· Each full-time faculty member (80% or higher FTE) is designated a student advisory group for the purpose of small group discussion as related to chapels and the advisory curriculum outline. The role of the advisor is to shepherd their students spiritually, socially, and academically. Advisory groups meet at various times per cycle. All candidates should see themselves as first and foremost a mentor of middle school students, secondarily to their specific discipline.
· What is expected of an advisor?
a) Regular scheduled meeting time with their advisory groups as outlined by the administration
b) Sit with their students at school meetings such as chapels, grade-level pod gatherings, and assemblies.
c) Participate as an advisor in school service projects.
d) Earn the trust of their students.
e) Pray with and for their students.
f) Communicate with parents as needed.
The culture at OCS is dedicated to developing the whole child. Advisory is an intentional structure ensuring every student has at least one adult advocate.
Faculty with an 80% teaching load receive benefits and are expected to fully comply with this job description. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Education/Experience: A bachelor’s degree in Bible or Theological Studies is required; a Master’s Degree in Bible or Theology is preferred.
