As a Human Resources leader, you'll coordinate impactful people-focused programs, policies, and services. Be the go-to advisor for administrators and staff on a wide range of HR topics. Drive the planning and administration of HR policies that support all phases of the employee lifecycle.

WHAT WE NEED:

  • Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day supervision for assigned HR staff, including recruitment, onboarding, coaching, performance evaluation, and disciplinary processes as needed.
  • Provide overall prioritization of work assignments and management of functional team resources and their activities.
  • Lead Oakland Schools' training and development strategy, overseeing the design and implementation of learning programs aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Direct the onboarding experience to ensure new hires are integrated effectively and supported from day one through targeted training and support.
  • Directs and oversees organizational committees.
  • Oversee the planning, implementation, and coordination of the Oakland Schools’ Human Resources Leadership Academy, ensuring alignment with program goals and objectives.
  • Directs the preparation and submission of mandates and requested reports, and monitors activities to ensure compliance with contract requirements and related legal mandates.
  • Provides assistance and consultation to Oakland Schools administrators and staff in interpreting Board of Education policies, procedures, and bargaining agreements.
  • Serves as an interface between Human Resources customers and functional team members to ensure effective definition and delivery of services.
  • Directs and manages the Oakland Schools performance system for represented and non-represented staff, including evaluation procedures for annual performance review, probationary review, Performance Improvement Plan, and Progressive Discipline.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Plans and oversees the implementation and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and technologies to comply with Oakland Schools’ requirements and improve the department's operating quality and efficiency.
  • Directs and oversees the implementation of new programs and processes designed to streamline and enhance the department's services.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


WHAT YOU NEED:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field; or other equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and/or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certificates preferred
  • 3 or more years of prior leadership experience required.
  • Program Management experience preferred.

This position is eligible to participate in the Flexible Work Program, which allows eligible employees to perform their job duties from a designated alternative location up to two days per week.


SALARY DETAILS:

$79,682 - $92,406 annually based on relevant prior work experience, with the potential to earn up to $99,511 after employment with Oakland Schools.

Exempt / 12-month work year.

Please note that salary schedules will be updated effective July 1, 2025, for the upcoming fiscal year.
