Job Title: Mathematics Teacher
Reports to: Mathematics Division Head
Terms and Conditions: Full-time, 10 months, 183 day teacher calendar.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary: Per Faculty Senate collective bargaining agreement,
initial placement on the salary schedule between
BA and MA+60 depending on the educational level,
and Step 1 and 5 depending on experience.

OPRF – WHO WE ARE…

Oak Park and River Forest High School, or OPRF, is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park, IL, a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a one-school district, with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts, River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses, a variety of programs for students with special needs, 75 clubs and activities, and 29 competitive sports. We prepare our students well for post-secondary success, with an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 94% graduation rate.

Oak Park and River Forest are communities that highly value diversity. OPRF is a founding member of the national Minority Student Achievement Network, and our school is racially and economically diverse, with about 48% of our 3,300 students identifying as African-American, Hispanic, multiracial, or Asian.  Qualifications:

  1. Valid Illinois Professional Educator’s License with Math endorsement.
  2. ESL and Computer Science endorsements preferred.
  3. Commitment to equity and and creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Position Summary: 

The OPRF Math division strives to nurture a deeper understanding and enhanced appreciation of mathematics by building the critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills of all students so that they can be successful in a global society as lifelong learners. The Math Teacher is responsible for planning and facilitating student-centered Math learning.

Essential Duties: (Other duties may be assigned.)

  1. Plan and instruct students on district Mathematics curriculum aligned to the Common Core Standards.
  2. Develop lesson plans and goals that meet district expectations.
  3. Provide instruction incorporating the Common Core Eight Mathematical Practices.
  4. Enrich or modify lessons, curriculum, materials and resources as needed to meet individual student needs and varying levels of progress.
  5. Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress. Administer standardized assessments as directed. Interpret student assessment data for application of instructional methods and monitoring of student progress.
  6. Review student progress via assessments, maintain records of student work, and develop intervention strategies to ensure student success and growth.
  7. Communicate verbally and in writing with parents and students regarding progress.
  8. Meet regularly and work collaboratively with other departmental teachers and support teachers to plan equitable instruction across all classrooms of the same subject.
  9. Meet regularly with support teachers, teacher assistants, and other support staff to discuss individual student’s modifications or adaptations, ongoing learning issues, interventions or problems. Work collaboratively to ensure individual student’s needs are met.
  10. Assign work, instructions or lessons to substitutes and/or student teachers.
  11. Actively participate on various building and District teams or committees.
  12. Set clear expectations for class and manage classroom and school environment applying positive behavioral supports and interventions as needed.
  13. Collaborate with other staff in planning, modifying, enhancing and implementing curriculum and district objectives.
  14. Establish a safe atmosphere conducive to a positive learning environment. Inform students of safety concerns in all laboratory situations and assure their safety through supervision.
  15. Act as a role model by encouraging appropriate behaviors that lead to social, emotional, and physical development
  16. Enforce and support school policies, philosophies and objectives with students and parents.
  17. Participate in staff development and school improvement activities in order to maintain professional growth. Plan and incorporate best practices or new strategies.
  18. Participate in events outside of the regularly scheduled work day such as orientation, open houses, conferences, and/or division meetings.
  19. Observe the professional day and maintain positive professional relations with colleagues.
  20. Hold high expectations for all students and demonstrate a deep belief that all students can learn and succeed.
  21. Communicate openly with students, staff, parents and other stakeholders regarding student’s achievement and progress in the classroom.
  22. Perform other related duties as assigned.

This job may involve supervision of student teachers and/or teaching assistants.
