About the role

We’re recruiting for a team lead within the Specialist Investment team. You will assist the team manager in ensuring we deliver great outcomes for our clients by ensuring our NSI processes and risks are effectively managed. This means being a pro at maintaining a healthy balance between delivering on our customers’ needs and expectations, while managing a dynamic and varied workload.

You’ll have an eye for detail and enthusiasm for finding ways to do things better, highlighting where a control could be improved and aid the design and implementation of this to ensure we best service the needs of our clients. You’ll need to understand the consequences of all actions and manage these in line with our risk framework.

You will spend your time:

  • Leading the day-to-day operation of our Technical-Investments Team, managing workload and cover, and reporting into the Senior Technical-Investments Manager.
  • Ensuring due diligence on new and existing non-standard investments is done accurately, in accordance with company standards, and on time.
  • Overseeing our non-standard investment control processes.
  • Identifying, highlighting and manging risks within our non-standard investment book.
  • Supporting projects to improve processes and deliver great customer outcomes.
  • Managing technical investment queries and escalations from FNZ, advisers and customers.
  • Sharing your knowledge to support the wider Investment Oversight Team and business.

You will have a good knowledge of investments, particularly non-standard and off-platform investments, and our associated risk and control processes, and be able to apply that knowledge to solve complex queries and problems as they arise.

A bit about you

Your friends would probably describe you as the “super-organised” one, ridiculously well planned and someone who takes time to really understand people and their needs. You’re the type of person who asks great questions to understand expectations but can react like lightening to solve problems as they occur.

You love mentoring others and get a real kick out of encouraging the right behaviours, supporting our core values and personally demonstrating these. You’ll set the bar high on performance even when stretching for the team, creating a team environment where high performance is the norm.

We’ve always placed more importance on cultural contribution above technical ability, but in this role we’d really like you to have/be:

  • Previous experience in the financial services industry
  • Experience leading a team and coaching others
  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Able to prioritise the high impact work, but never neglect the details
  • Excellent communication skills – We need you to be completely comfortable representing our culture and values, with an emphasis on a speedy, friendly style
  • Able to anticipate the needs of those you work with, juggling conflicting priorities
  • The ability to think laterally and come up with new solutions to old problems
