Job Title: NPD BIW Sheetmetal Design Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled NPD BIW Sheetmetal Design Engineer to develop and optimize complex sheetmetal component designs for BIW, closures, or hoods. The successful candidate will utilize advanced CATIA V5 Sheetmetal modeling techniques to ensure compliance with detailed engineering specifications and manufacturing constraints.
Responsibilities
- Optimize complex sheetmetal component designs using advanced CATIA V5 Sheetmetal modeling techniques.
- Execute CAD modeling adhering to strict Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing protocols to ensure dimensional accuracy and proper interfacing.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis and variation management for critical Sheetmetal interfaces.
- Conduct in-depth forming feasibility analyses, including material flow, thinning, springback prediction, and wrinkle prevention.
- Interface with stamping and tooling engineering teams to provide technical design input for die robustness and tool clearance.
- Lead sheetmetal joinery design by specifying welds, clinches, adhesives, and mechanical fasteners.
- Manage PLM processes within Teamcenter, including design data revision control and Engineering Change Notices.
- Utilize digital mockup tools like Vismockup for vehicle assembly validation and clash detection.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with structural engineers, CAD specialists, material engineers, and manufacturing process engineers.
Essential Skills
- 5+ years experience in sheetmetal design for body, closures, and hoods.
- Expert in CATIA V5 and automotive Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Strong knowledge of stamping, forming, and material behavior including HSS, AHSS, and aluminum.
- Skilled in tolerance analysis, assembly fit, and manufacturing collaboration.
- Proficient with Teamcenter PLM and Vismockup.
- Experienced in welding and joining methods for structural integrity.

- Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Work Environment
The work environment involves collaboration with cross-functional teams including structural engineers, CAD specialists, material engineers, and manufacturing process engineers. The role requires the use of advanced digital tools like CATIA V5, Teamcenter PLM, and Vismockup to ensure high-quality design and manufacturability of sheetmetal components.
