Cost control & compliance - Responsible for maintaining profitable operations across all assigned offices, targeting a minimum profit margin of 12%.
- Ensure the timely processing and ongoing accuracy of all billing activities.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to cost, compliance, revenue, profit and loss (P&L), turnover, and other relevant metrics.
- Support the creation and management of operational budgets for assigned port(s), ensuring adherence to financial goals.
- Oversee profit and loss (P&L) responsibilities, ensuring financial performance aligns with company objectives.
Safety - Monitor and track safety key performance indicators (KPIs) and training compliance.
- Organize and lead safety meetings to promote awareness and best practices.
- Ensure all personnel complete and comply with mandatory safety policies and requirements.
- Prepare and submit safety reports as required.
- Ensure the office is suitable for visits from colleagues, customers, government officials, stevedores, port managers, and general visitors.
- Implement and enforce the NLI safety program, ensuring full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
People & Workplace - Participate in the recruitment process, including interviewing and approving new hires.
- Manage employee turnover and retention efforts.
- Handle all aspects of employee management, including hiring, training, terminations, and disciplinary actions, including HR as necessary.
- Ensure all personnel complete and comply with mandatory training requirements.
- Maintain regular communication with principals, customers, and Port Partners.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve shared objectives and foster a positive, cooperative work environment.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to achieving goals, maintaining a sense of urgency, overcoming challenges, and efficiently resolving issues, even when faced with obstacles.
- Ensure that all staff receive the appropriate training activity such as maritime, language, or industry trade courses.
- Ensure that all training is properly documented and conducted within timelines established by NLI policy.
- Board vessels as needed for operational training, operational oversight and relationship purposes.
Sales/Growth - Build and maintain relationships within the local community.
- Actively participate in local maritime organizations – Propeller Club, etc. (specific organizations will vary based on Port and commodity).
- Identify and recommend local opportunities, discussing relevant information with your supervisor.
- Communicate regularly with principals, customers, the Port Authority, Terminals and relevant government agencies.
- Participate in sales calls and events related to customer accounts.
Quality of delivery - Define and uphold standards for communication quality and timeliness in both internal and external customers.
- Provide regular reporting to leadership on CRM metrics, user engagement, and system ROI.
- Maintain internal content calendars and ensure alignment with organizational goals and key initiatives.
- Support client-facing teams with tailored communication tools and templates for seamless delivery and messaging.
- Ensure verbal and written communications are delivered accurately, timely, and completely.
- Provide training and guidance as needed to the local port office to ensure the company standard of quality is delivered.
Misc. - Abide by company HSEQ policies and procedures.
