Overview:
The Staff Auditor assists the Internal Audit Department in executing the annual audit plan by performing operational, financial, information systems, and regulatory compliance audit procedures. This role supports the evaluation of internal controls and processes to provide reasonable assurance, mitigate risk, and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, under the guidance of Internal Audit management.
Responsibilities:
- Performs assigned audit procedures and assists Internal Audit management in planning, developing, and executing audit programs, including documenting audit objectives, identifying risks and controls, and performing appropriate audit testing
- Assists Internal Audit management in conducting interviews with Credit Union management and staff, as needed, to gain an overall understanding of systems, processes, procedures, reports, transactions, and specific issues
- Performs and documents assigned audit work in a timely manner, in accordance with departmental standards and the Institute of Internal Auditors’ Global Internal Audit Standards
- Obtains, reviews, and analyzes audit evidence using critical thinking to objectively evaluate information and assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls over operations, systems, or regulatory areas
- Participates in entrance, follow-up, and/or exit conferences with Credit Union management
- Assists in communicating audit results, identified risks, and opportunities for improvement through clear verbal and written communication, with guidance from Internal Audit management
- Assists Internal Audit management in drafting audit reports that summarize audit objectives, scope, conclusion, observations, recommendations, and management responses for completed audits
- Assists Internal Audit management in appraising the adequacy of corrective action planned or taken by Credit Union management as a result of audit issues and recommendations
- Knowledgeable of the Credit Union’s products and services
- Safeguards the confidentiality of all Credit Union confidential and proprietary information accessed in the course of Internal Audit duties
- Remains cognizant of and adheres to NWFCU policies and procedures as well as regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field
- Minimum 1 year of experience in auditing, accounting, or a related business discipline (including internships or co-ops)
- Good interpersonal and organizational skills
- Good judgement and strong analytical skills
- Demonstrates objectivity and ethical behavior
- The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- The ability to develop and maintain working relationships with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders, and contractors
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft suite of software
- Basic understanding of financial computations.
- Must be able to work the hours of Monday – Friday, 8am – 4:30pm
- Ability to work effectively on-site at NWFCU’s Herndon, VA headquarters with the capability to perform effectively in an approved telework environment
Preferred
- Progress towards professional certification (i.e., CIA, CPA, CFE, CISA, IAP, etc.)
- Prior experience working with a financial institution
