About the role

Corporate Health and Safety Advisor Northumberland County Council - Morpeth Salary: £35,336 - £38,296 per annum Contract Type: Permanent Hours: 37 per week Role Purpose: To provide proactive support, advice and guidance to directorates and services on all aspects of health and safety. This will include the development and implementation of policies, procedures, strategies and initiatives to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements and to promote a positive health and safety culture. Main Responsibilities: - Provide proactive support, advice and guidance to directorates and services on all aspects of health and safety. - Develop, monitor and review health and safety policies, procedures and guidance to ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. - Develop and deliver health and safety training programmes to meet the needs of the Council. - Undertake site inspections, audits and accident/incident investigations, making recommendations to improve health and safety performance. - Analyse health and safety data and produce reports on trends and performance. - Liaise with external regulatory bodies, e.g. Health and Safety Executive, to ensure the Council is meeting its statutory obligations. - Provide a health and safety advisory service to schools and support the implementation of council-wide initiatives. Qualifications and Experience: - Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (such as occupational health and safety, environmental health or a related science-based discipline) or a Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH). - Substantial experience of working in a health and safety role, ideally within a large multi-service organisation. - Demonstrable experience of developing and implementing health and safety policies, procedures and guidance. - Extensive knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and best practice. - Experience of delivering health and safety training and awareness programmes. - Experience of undertaking site inspections, audits and accident/incident investigations. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate at all levels. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
