JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the charge nurse of the unit is responsible for performing clerical and receptionist duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Prepare for preoperative check-in of patient on the day of surgery.
· Aware of patient rights.
· Demonstrate flexibility in managing the workload.
· Maintain accurate inventory of unit supplies.
· Assume responsibility for receptionist activities.
· Assist with taking surgery bookings.
· Maintain and upgrade information into hospital communication system.
· Assist with HMS entry.
· Assist with emotional needs of patient and family members.
· Transport specimen.
· Recognize and respond to priorities in patient care.
· Adhere to dress code policy.
· Fulfill staff development requirements.
· Understand emergency procedures and protocols.
· Responsible for patient and employee safety as it applies to their work environment.
Requirements
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous clerical or receptionist experience in hospital setting preferred.
WORKER TRAITS:
· Verbal ability is necessary for understanding procedure routines and instructions.
· Clerical perception is necessary to perceive and maintain detail in entering date on patients’ charts and to avoid errors.
· Assist in orientation program for new employees.
· Facilitate open positive communication.
· Perform duties in an independent manner with little or no supervision.
· Demonstrate involvement at the unit level.
· Perform other such related duties not listed herein but deemed in the best interest of the unit and/or NMMC.
