Summary:
The Sleep Disorders Center Supervisor is under the general supervision of the Director and Medical Director, serves as Senior Technologist and as supervisor for the technical operation and training activities of the Sleep Disorders Center. Successful completion of Tech I and Tech II requirements. Passage of examinations by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists. The Sleep Disorders Center Supervisor is responsible for the continued learning and performance of sleep procedures according to the established policies of the department and North Oaks Health System. All the responsibilities below will be performed in a manner which will promote and maintain a positive community and professional image for the department and hospital The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department policies and procedures. Each of the responsibilities will be accomplished in a safe manner that will not permit injury to the employee.

Experience, Knowledge and Skill

1. Previous Experience Required:

High School graduate with preferred emphasis on physical or biological sciences. At least 3 years of clinical experience in Polysomnography. Passage of oral, written and practical exams. Demonstrates the desire to acquire and use new skills. Maturity and the ability to establish good rapport with patients, the public and staff. Interacts well with severely ill or “difficult” patients, including children. Demonstrates a high degree of leadership, organizational and teaching skills.

2. Specialized or Technical Education Required:

Registered by the Board of Registered Polysomnography(RPSGT).

5. Completed BCLS certification

Responsibilities:

1. The person in this class is distinguished by a high degree of sophistication in the field of polysomnography. He/she supervises the technical operation of clinical and/or research work; directs related clerical activity; supervises, plans and helps develop training programs.

2. Performs all Tech duties.

3. Plans work schedules, including shift work assignments and prioritizes work.

4. Supervises, plans and reviews the work of the technical staff.

5. Supervises or performs difficult or unusual recording procedures.

6. Maintains inventory control and initiates purchasing of lab supplies and equipment.

7. Schedules for maintenance and repairs of equipment. Reviews routine equipment maintenance logs.

8. Take part in the recruiting, selection and evaluation of lab staff and trainees. Makes staffing recommendations to Director.

9. Organizes and participates in conferences and technical meetings.

10. Take part in the marketing and growth of the center.

11. Performs other related duties as required.

12. Follows North Oaks Health System’s Compliance programs and all Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.

13. Display competency in applying age-appropriate communication skills.

14. Participates in 10 hours of sleep-related CME or CME-equivalent educational activities per year.

15. Demonstrates communication and interpreting skills and proficiency:

a. Assist staff and direct assignment

b. If needed, perform testing

c. Attend hospital committee meetings

d. Communicates with physicians

e Works closely with medical staff to ensure procedure quality

f. Keeps Director, and Medical Director informed

16. Evaluation of clinical competency and professionalism of new orientees and co-workers.

17. Arranges contact with salespersons to evaluate equipment and/or supplies

18. Ensures that daily charges are completed.

19. Maintains a professional and responsible attitude.

20. Promote teamwork.

21. Understands order communication computer system.

22. Assist in employee evaluation.

23. Functions with cost containment in mind.

Responsibilities:

1. Responsible in the development and integration of the policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of Sleep Disorders Center services.

2. Responsible for the assessment of staffing by preparing work schedules and supervising work so it may be completed in an efficient, timely manner.

3. Aids the director in the determination of competence of service personnel.

4. Aids the director in the selection of technical personnel and is responsible for the supervision of these personnel.

5. Aids the director in orientation of new personnel and continuous training of all personnel in the department by providing time to attend and also providing department in-services on sleep disorders-related topics as well as in-service/education to other areas in the hospital.

6. Participates in quality improvement programs with the development and facilitating of continuous quality improvement committee.

7. Provides assistance and consultations with the medical director as well as other physicians regarding the sleep study and treatment.

8. Responsible for the department; safeguarding of storeroom and mobile equipment, and the department budget.

9. Responsible for instruction to personnel in safe usage of equipment, and personal safety of a patient and employee doing the sleep study and clinics.

10. Responsible for the safeguarding of confidential information in personnel files, employee rates, and patient information.

11. Able to work independently without the immediate supervision of the department director with the director available to give advice or instructions, as new work conditions require.
