About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will take a leadership position in shaping and enhancing the backend architecture of both Book An Artist and Wescover platforms. Your expertise will be critical in designing scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend systems that power our marketplace functionalities, APIs, integrations, and internal tools. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence the technical direction of our products, mentor junior developers, and work collaboratively across teams to deliver innovative solutions. The ideal candidate will possess strong ownership qualities, a passion for building robust systems, and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a fast-paced startup environment.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in backend development, with proven expertise in building scalable and secure backend systems. Essential qualifications include strong proficiency in Node.js and frameworks such as Express.js, with a solid track record of developing RESTful APIs for web and mobile applications. Experience working with relational databases like MySQL and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB is required. Familiarity with AWS cloud services, including EC2 and S3, is essential for managing infrastructure and deployments. Candidates should demonstrate a good understanding of backend scalability, security best practices, and system architecture design. Additional skills include experience with version control systems like Git, basic knowledge of DevOps practices, and the ability to work effectively in Agile/SCRUM teams. Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills are also vital for success in this role.
Responsibilities
Backend Leadership & Ownership
- Lead backend development initiatives across the Book An Artist and Wescover platforms, setting technical standards and best practices.
- Make architectural decisions that ensure system scalability, security, and maintainability.
- Mentor and collaborate with development team members to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with product managers, frontend developers, and operations teams to deliver seamless and high-quality solutions.
Product & Feature Development
- Design, develop, and deploy new backend modules, APIs, and platform features from inception to production.
- Build scalable REST APIs and backend services utilizing Node.js and Express.js frameworks.
- Create systems that support marketplace workflows, mobile applications, and third-party integrations.
- Participate actively in Agile/SCRUM development cycles, ensuring timely delivery of features and updates.
Scalability & Performance
- Ensure backend services are optimized for speed, reliability, and scalability to accommodate user growth.
- Optimize database queries, enhance API performance, and improve server-side architecture.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to maintain system health and reliability.
Security & Infrastructure
- Design and implement backend systems following industry-leading security standards and practices.
- Manage cloud infrastructure and deployments using AWS services such as EC2, S3, and related tools.
- Support DevOps initiatives, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and deployment strategies.
Database & System Design
- Design scalable database schemas and architectures using MySQL and MongoDB to support business growth.
- Maintain and troubleshoot production systems, resolving backend issues efficiently and effectively.
- Implement data security, backup strategies, and disaster recovery plans.
