Launched in 1987 during the early years of the HIV/AIDS crisis in the United States, NMAC is a national HIV organization that offers capacity building, leadership development, policy education, and public engagement to end the HIV epidemic among communities most impacted in the United States.

Reporting Structure
- Reports to: Chief Programs Officer
- Supervises: Program Manager(s), Evaluation & Training Manager, and Center‑based staff
- Collaborates with: Development, Communications, Finance, Policy, and Operations teams; CDC and other funders; national and community partners
Location
Hybrid; Primarily remote, with occasional travel required for national convenings, site visits, funder meetings, and public events.
Position Summary
The Director of the Center to End the Epidemic provides senior‑level leadership for NMAC’s Center to End the Epidemic, overseeing strategy, implementation, performance, and sustainability of federally funded and mission‑critical initiatives focused on ending the HIV epidemic.
This role has primary responsibility for the successful execution of the CDC PS24‑0020 Workforce Development and Sustainability for Community‑Based Organizations (CBOs) project, ensuring programmatic excellence, fiscal accountability, compliance, and measurable impact. The Director shapes the long‑term vision of the Center, strengthens national partnerships, and ensures NMAC remains a thought leader in HIV workforce development, capacity building, and racial health equity.
This is a CDC grant‑funded leadership position, contingent upon continued funding and compliance with grant requirements.

Strategic & Program Leadership
- Set and advance the strategic vision for the Center to End the Epidemic in alignment with NMAC priorities.
- Lead multi‑year planning, innovation, and sustainability efforts for center initiatives.
- Ensure all programming reflects equity‑centered, community‑informed approaches.
CDC Grant Oversight & Compliance
- Provide direct oversight of the CDC PS24‑0020 Workforce Development and Sustainability for CBOs project.
- Ensure compliance with all CDC programmatic, fiscal, evaluation, and reporting requirements.
- Monitor budgets, timelines, and deliverables in collaboration with Finance and Programs leadership.
Team Leadership & Management
- Supervise and support Center staff, including program and evaluation leaders.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and inclusive team culture.
- Support staff performance, professional development, and retention.
Partnerships & External Representation
- Cultivate and manage relationships with CBOs, healthcare systems, national partners, and funders.
- Serve as the primary representative and spokesperson for the Center.
- Strengthen cross‑sector partnerships advancing workforce sustainability and epidemic‑ending goals.
Evaluation, Learning, & Reporting
- Oversee performance monitoring and data‑informed decision‑making.
- Translate outcomes and lessons learned into reports, presentations, and funder communications.
- Support dissemination of best practices and field leadership.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Advanced leadership and strategic management skills
- Strong understanding of HIV prevention, care, and workforce challenges
- Demonstrated experience managing federally funded public health initiatives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage complex partnerships and high‑stakes funder relationships

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in public health, social sciences, nonprofit management, or related field preferred
- Extensive experience within NMAC with increasing leadership responsibility
- Proven success leading public health or HIV‑focused programs
- Experience with CDC cooperative agreements or similar federal funding preferred
