Data Science Intern - Summer 2025

Niantic's Data Science and Machine Learning Team is seeking interns to work on advancing our real-world augmented reality (AR) games and our developer platform. You'll grow your skills quickly while being mentored by an experienced team of server, gaming, mobile, full-stack and computer vision engineers and data scientists. Our technical challenges include data consistency across distributed systems, creating compelling gameplay for a global user base working with geo data at scale, and innovating in augmented reality. Niantic Engineering leads the advancement of augmented reality and other immersive technologies while creating engaging apps for a user base in the billions. Responsibilities You will work with a team of hard-working data science and machine learning professionals as well as directly with cross-functional teams to identify business opportunities, optimize product performance, and/or develop operational strategy. You will analyze large-scale structured and unstructured data and develop deep-dive analyses and models that drive value for our players and our games. Have a "product first" mentality that aligns with our mission, values and strategy. Translate quantitative findings in concise and clear messages to stakeholders and external partners. Qualifications Graduating in 2026 with a Graduate degree in statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, machine learning, economics or a related field. Deep knowledge of SQL; experience using Python or R also a plus. Deep understanding of statistics, math and modeling techniques. Experience with randomized control trials, and experimental design. Plus If... You love Augmented Reality. Hands-on experience building end-to-end data pipelines, ETL processes, and/or production models. Previous experience on geospatial data analysis, social graph analysis and/or gaming analytics. Excellent communications skills; ability to synthesize, simplify, and explain problems and methodologies to different audiences including executives.
