I. POSITION SUMMARY  

A.    Applies the nickel plating finish to dies that are used in the extrusion processes by following the approved work instructions, key point sheets and departmental standards and practices; and follows all safety protocols.

 

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (The section is not intended to be an all-inclusive list and NGK Ceramics reserves the right to include other duties as assigned):

  1. Performs die preparation operations by utilizing techniques established through on-the-job training, work instructions, key points sheets and standard departmental practices
  2. Handles corrosive chemistries and performs bath make up duties according to approved recipes
  3. Cleans die and performs general visual inspections on all incoming work, utilizing a 10x loupe and light table
  4. Measures dies using Nexiv CMM machine
  5. Practices good die handling techniques per established departmental practices
  6. Enters accurate and complete data into the company’s information systems
  7. Promotes safety, quality, efficiency and productivity in the department
  8. Participates in safety and work related training, as required

 

I.      Works safely by avoiding forklifts; staying clear of forklift doors; using personnel doors when entering or exiting the buildings; and safely using overhead hoists

J.     Participates in PM (Preventive Maintenance), MMOL (Machine Maintenance Operator Leader), and G5S (Global 5S: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) activities, including scheduled end of shift duties

K.    Follows all EMS (Environmental Management System) procedures, including the disposal of waste and used materials

L.     This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

IV. REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

A.    Required Education and/or Experience                                                    

1.     Must be able to successfully complete all required job training

2.     High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

3.     Must pass Homeland Security level background check

4.     Must pass 40 hour HAZWOPER certification (provided by NGK)

5.     6 month manufacturing/warehousing experience or equivalent

6.     CRC Bronze or above

7.     Certified Production Technician program completion (preferred)

 

B.    Required Language Skills                                                           

1.     Ability to read and comprehend work instructions.  Ability to communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

 

C.    Required Mathematical Skills                                                      

1.     Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

2.     Ability to apply basic mathematics to calculate plating times

 

D.    Required Reasoning Ability                                         

1.     Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

2.     Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

E.    Preferred Qualifications

1.     Experience with die measurement (Nexiv Coordinate Measuring Machines)

2.     Good organizational skills

3.     Good communication skills

4.     Experience with equipment mechanics.

5.     Working knowledge of Microsoft 2013.

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  2. The employee is required to have 20/20 vision (natural or corrected vision).
  3. The employee must successfully pass spirometry and respirator fit testing.
  4. The employee must frequently lift 35-50 pounds and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds with the use of a lift assist and/or utilize a team lifting technique.

 

VI. WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  2. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 

VII. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS/PPE

 A.    Face masks are required per CDC guidelines, effective 10/1/2021 

B.    Safety shoes must be worn while on NGK property.

 C.    Safety goggles and/or full face shield are required while performing certain job duties.

 D.    Task appropriate gloves (e.g. nitrile gloves, multi-poly gloves, or fire retardant gloves) are required while performing certain job duties.

 E.    PVC aprons are required while performing certain job duties.

 F.    Half mask cartridge respirators plus goggles are required while performing certain job duties.

G.    Regularly scheduled testing is performed for: lung capacity (i.e. spirometry test), vision, and respirator fit.
