About the Role
The West Bengal State Data Center (WBSDC) carries traffic for some of Eastern India's most critical state-government applications. As an L2 Network Engineer, you will be the second line of defense — handling escalations from L1, leading complex change implementations, and being the on-call expert for the security and routing fabric.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of incidents escalated from L1; lead troubleshooting, RCA, and resolution within SLA.
- Plan, install, configure, and maintain enterprise-class switches, routers, firewalls, WAFs, Anti-DDoS, NIPS, ADC, LLB, and Anti-APT appliances.
- Lead implementation of new connectivity at the DC and customer-premise sites — survey to commissioning.
- Operate the NMS stack for performance monitoring, SLA reporting, and capacity trend analysis.
- Coordinate with OEMs for L3 escalation, RMA, and engineering-level support.
- Maintain asset registers, network diagrams, configuration backups, and change records.
- Collaborate with sysadmin, security, and customer teams on cross-functional issue resolution.
- Mentor L1 engineers and contribute to run-book development.
What You Bring
- 3–5 years' hands-on experience in enterprise networking — routing, switching, topologies, protocols (OSPF, BGP, VLAN, STP, LACP).
- Practical experience with switches, routers, and security appliances (firewalls, WAF, Anti-DDoS, NIPS, ADC, LLB, Anti-APT) from Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or Checkpoint.
- Hands-on NMS experience (SolarWinds, ManageEngine OpManager, Zabbix, or similar).
- Strong customer communication, structured troubleshooting, and OEM coordination skills.
- Willingness to work shift roster including 24x7 on-call.
- CCNP / NSE-4 or equivalent certification preferred.
What Success Looks Like
- Network availability and security posture consistently meeting SLA.
- Incidents escalated from L1 resolved within SLA with clean RCAs.
- L1 team upskilled and producing better tickets over time.
