Position Summary:
Nelson Pipeline is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Shop & Equipment Business Manager to oversee our Shop, Welding & Equipment operations in Fort Lupton, CO. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of our shop, growing our welding operations, equipment and business operations, including budget management, personnel management, process improvement, cost analysis, vendor analysis and ensuring the highest standards of safety and internal customer service to our field employees.

Duties:

Manage a monthly budget of $500-$1M, including reporting and analysis on department costs, trends and forecasting with a focus on creating cost efficiencies and driving a cost-conscious culture
Responsible for building, scaling, and leading the Welding Business Unit, including driving new client acquisition, aligning operations to meet revenue targets, and optimizing team performance, efficiency, and overall productivity
Utilize technical expertise to establishes short and long-term standard operating procedures and financial objectives with support from the Director of Operational Finance, with a focus on process improvement
Establishes positive relationships with vendors while effectively negotiating to establish mutually beneficial contractual terms and pricing
Manage the day-to-day operations of the shop
Direct and monitoring preventative maintenance scheduling and repairs for all equipment and company vehicles
Oversee all shop operations, including work orders, inventory management, and streamlining processes and communication channels
Collaborate closely with the equipment manager to ensure efficient operations and communications
Maintains appropriate communication between all departments within the company, with an ‘internal customer first’ mentality
Drive a culture of safety by promoting safe working habits and ensuring compliance with all safety regulations
Lead and manage a team of employees, including training, resolving personnel issues, payroll, and conducting performance appraisals and more
Reviews and approves the results of activities within the department and takes appropriate action as necessary
Complete administrative tasks such as payroll review, time-off approval, and work order assignment
Approximately 80% of the job will involve administrative and people management tasks, with the remaining 20% involving hands-on work in the shop or field
Provide direct oversight of the Equipment Manager and the broader equipment management function, ensuring alignment with operational needs and company goals
Oversee all aspects of equipment operations, including scheduling and coordinating equipment moves to and from jobsites
Lead evaluation and decision-making related to equipment purchases versus rentals, including cost-benefit analysis and strategic recommendations
Ensure proper usage, maintenance, and training on all equipment to promote safety, reduce wear and tear, and extend equipment life
Develop and implement policies and procedures for equipment tracking, accountability, and operational readiness
Other job duties as assigned

Requirements

Willingness to travel within the district as necessary and work the required schedule at our Fort Lupton location
Valid driver's license
Strong customer service and organizational skills
Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office and web-based applications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a shop environment preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in shop management preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in business and people management preferred
