Duties
You will work as a research engineer/scientist in the area of energetic materials research and development.,You will perform laboratory operations with minimal oversight aimed at characterization, analysis, modeling and simulation, of energetic materials and their constituents.,You will perform independent complex research and development and report results in peer-reviewed forums (journal, conference, meetings).,You will develop original proposals/cost estimates/statements of work to secure external and internal funding for work to be executed.,You will execute complex programs involving multiple personnel in different technical departments and manage necessary equipment/resources.,You will participate in the safety culture and safety programs ongoing and developed at the duty station.
Qualifications
FOR ND-02: You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study as described in the Education section of this flyer. For the ND-03: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-02 (GS-05/08) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: as a professional engineer or scientist applying research engineering or scientific methods in energetic or reactive materials and development. Education
Education can be substituted for experience at the ND-03 level (GS-9/11 equivalent) as follows: bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement and one year of professional engineering experience that required and was characterized by 1) professional knowledge of engineering, 2) professional ability to apply such knowledge to engineering problems, and 3) positive and continuing development of professional knowledge and ability. or 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree

You will serve as and Engineer or Scientist in the Energetics Formulations Branch (E62), Weapons Research and Evaluation Division (E6), Research & Engineering Department (E) of Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-02 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to the GS-05 thru GS-08. The ND-03 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to the GS-09 and GS-11. This announcement uses the STRL for Direct Support direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
