Position Summary
The Warehouseman II is a front-line operations role responsible for the safe, efficient, and accurate handling of materials across warehouse and port locations. This position operates heavy equipment, maintains inventory integrity, and supports vessel operations while contributing to a positive team culture. The Warehouseman II plays a key role in ensuring product quality, safety compliance, and operational readiness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates heavy equipment including excavators, forklifts, trucks, railcar movers, and front-end loaders to load and unload products to required weights.
- Runs and maintains processing equipment such as conveyors, conditioners, hoppers, and screening systems to meet customer specifications.
- Performs basic maintenance and repairs on machinery to ensure operational continuity.
- Maintains inventory integrity, prevent contamination, and optimize load-out efficiency.
- Supports vessel operations, including high stacking of materials without compromising stowage.
- Communicates regularly with scale attendants, warehouse staff, and management to ensure smooth operations.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager regarding equipment condition and service needs.
- Contributes to warehouse upkeep, including cleaning and beautification of indoor and outdoor areas.
- Reports damages and accidents promptly and accurately.
- Ensures compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Provides operational backup to other Metro Ports’ locations as needed.
- Maintains availability to work nights, weekends, and travel to outlying ports.
- Adapts to changing operational demands and environmental conditions.
- Performance Goal: Achieve 98% accuracy in product handling and inventory documentation over a rolling 6-month period.
- Other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.
Qualifications
Required:
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year operating heavy equipment in an industrial or warehouse setting.
- Licenses: Valid driver’s license; valid TWIC card or ability to obtain and maintain.
- Knowledge: Understanding of warehouse safety protocols and equipment operation standards.
- Skills:
- Proficient in operating heavy machinery safely and efficiently.
- Effective communicator, with the ability to speak clearly and write reports.
- Attention to detail in handling materials and maintaining inventory.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and organizational sensitivity.
Preferred:
- Additional Experiences: Experience in port or marine terminal operations.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with inventory management systems and documentation practices.
- Skills: Proficient in basic mechanical troubleshooting.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Physical Demands: The physical demands described here represent those that are typically required to perform the essential functions of this position. This role requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds. It may involve regular exposure to outdoor environments and active work sites. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required depending on the task. Some positions may require travel between job sites.
