ENTITY:  Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Parish in Broomfield is a Colorado nonprofit corporation that provides ministry services to 

the Broomfield community. Nativity: Faith and Reason is a ministry of the parish. 


Supervisory: No Eligible for Overtime: Yes Pay Type:   Hourly, non-exempt

Time Commitment: As directed by the employee’s contract. A contract is offered for one academic year.


THE POSITION: The Learning Interventionist fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by working with identified students to improve overall and specific reading skills using a variety of strategies. The Learning Interventionist also supports the Learning Support Coordinator in the planning, guiding, and evaluation of the learning process of the students in the Catholic school for whom he/she is responsible, within the framework of the school’s philosophy, organization, and curriculum. The Learning Interventionist provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize student competencies and skills for intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth toward a successful future. The Learning Interventionist has decision making responsibilities within essential job functions, in keeping with school policies. The position is hired and evaluated by the principal.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Catholic Archdiocese of Denver
  • Abides by the Confidentiality Policy set forth in the Faculty Handbook
  • Consults frequently with classroom teachers on matters relating to reading instruction using progress monitoring instruments as a base
  • Designs interventions and assists in the implementation of interventions
  • Helps teachers and the Learning Support Coordinator diagnose reading strengths and weaknesses and match these skills with appropriate techniques and materials
  • Works extensively with students to help them improve specific reading skills such as but not limited to letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, fluency and comprehension strategies
  • Works with the classroom teachers and Learning Support Coordinator to coordinate reading instruction designed to meet the individual needs of students
  • Supports reading instruction as needed following a tiered plan
  • Demonstrates professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to the school, students, and staff
  • Demonstrates gains in student performance that are in keeping with school goals
  • Demonstrates a willingness to respond to individual learning needs
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning
  • Conferences with parents upon request and responds to messages in a timely manner
  • Additional duties assigned by the principal

Requirements

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in teaching
  • Ability to maintain current CPR and 1st Aid certifications

  • Must complete all classes/seminars as directed by Nativity: Faith and Reason Catholic School and the Archdiocese of Denver
  • Knowledge / experience with MTSS / RTI structures
  • Knowledge of the science of reading

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak daily
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, and writing
  • Required to monitor students in a variety of locations with noise, activity, and inclement weather
  • Required to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate  displays of anger
  • Maintain good physical health with the ability to perform job duties, lift 30 pounds, move quickly, bend, squat, kneel, sit on floor, reach overhead
