Role Overview
The National Retail Head – Store Expansion will be leading the company’s pan-India retail growth strategy and driving aggressive store expansion across key markets. The role is responsible for end-to-end retail operations, P&L management, expansion planning, and creating a scalable, profitable retail ecosystem.
This leadership role requires a dynamic professional with strong commercial acumen, deep understanding of the Indian retail landscape, and proven expertise in launching and scaling exclusive brand outlets (EBOs), franchise stores, and company-owned retail formats.
Key Responsibilities
Retail Expansion & Growth Strategy
- Lead the national retail expansion strategy for EBOs, franchise stores, and company-owned outlets across India.
- Identify high-potential markets, retail locations, and growth opportunities aligned with business objectives.
- Drive end-to-end store expansion activities including market mapping, site selection, lease negotiations, store setup, and launch execution.
- Develop annual and long-term retail growth plans with clear expansion targets and profitability goals.
- Collaborate with leadership on strategic decisions related to retail footprint optimization and market penetration.
P&L Ownership & Revenue Management
- Own and manage the retail business P&L at a national level.
- Drive monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets across all retail locations.
- Improve store productivity, profitability, and unit economics.
- Monitor revenue performance, operating costs, and business KPIs to ensure sustainable growth.
- Prepare budgets, sales forecasts, and business performance reports for management review.
Retail Operations Excellence
- Standardize retail operations, SOPs, visual merchandising (VM), and customer engagement practices across all stores.
- Ensure operational efficiency in inventory management, replenishment, shrinkage control, and compliance.
- Monitor store audits, operational standards, and service quality benchmarks.
- Implement best-in-class retail practices to enhance productivity and customer satisfaction.
Leadership & Team Management
- Build, mentor, and lead high-performing regional managers, cluster managers, and store teams.
- Drive a performance-oriented retail culture with strong focus on accountability and execution.
- Develop training programs for sales capability, customer handling, product knowledge, and operational excellence.
- Conduct regular business reviews and performance evaluations across regions.
Customer Experience & Omnichannel Integration
- Enhance in-store customer experience through service excellence and premium retail engagement.
- Collaborate with marketing and digital teams to integrate omnichannel retail initiatives.
- Leverage technology and analytics to improve customer insights, sales conversion, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure alignment between offline retail and digital commerce platforms.
Partner & Stakeholder Management
- Manage relationships with landlords, franchise partners, mall developers, and channel stakeholders.
- Negotiate commercial agreements, lease terms, and partnership contracts.
- Coordinate with internal departments including finance, marketing, supply chain, HR, and legal for seamless expansion execution.
- Represent the retail business in key external meetings and strategic partnerships.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Experience
- 7–15+ years of experience in retail expansion, retail operations, or business development within FMCG, consumer durables, electronics, fashion, or lifestyle industries.
- Proven track record in scaling physical retail networks and managing multiple successful store launches across India.
- Experience handling large-format retail operations, EBOs, franchise, or modern trade environments.
Leadership & Business Skills
- Strong leadership experience managing cross-functional and geographically dispersed teams.
- Excellent commercial and financial management capabilities with hands-on P&L ownership experience.
- Deep understanding of retail KPIs, profitability metrics, and operational excellence.
- Strong negotiation, networking, and stakeholder management skills.
Industry Knowledge
- In-depth understanding of the Indian retail real estate ecosystem and market dynamics.
- Knowledge of store expansion models, lease management, and franchise operations.
- Strong awareness of customer behavior trends and evolving retail technologies.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, Marketing, or related field.
- MBA or Postgraduate qualification preferred.

Preferred Industry Background
Candidates from consumer electronics, smartphones, consumer durables, fashion retail, lifestyle brands, or large-format retail chains will be preferred.
