National Coatings & Supplies, Inc. is looking for a Corporate Tax Manager to join our team in Raleigh, NC. The Corporate Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing the company's multi-state tax compliance, reporting, and payment obligations. This role combines hands-on tax preparation with continuous process improvement, interdepartmental collaboration, and strong analytical oversight. The position plays a key role in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations while supporting the broader accounting and finance function.
Essential Duties:
- Tax Compliance & Reporting:
Prepare, review, and file monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions accurately and timely.
Prepare and file annual personal and real property tax returns, including coordination with operations and local taxing authorities.
Preparation of annual income tax provision as well as the financial statement reporting for income taxes.
Prepare, review, and remit quarterly and annual U.S. federal and state income tax payments.
- Manage fixed asset depreciation schedules for tax purposes, ensuring compliance with applicable tax regulations and alignment with accounting records.
Support audits and inquiries from taxing authorities and financial statement auditors and assist in responding to notices, assessments, and information requests.
- Accounting & Reconciliation:
Review and approve monthly balance sheet account reconciliations accurately and on time for all assigned tax-related accounts.
Prepare and review/approve journal entries, including tax accruals, adjustments, and corrections.
Ensure proper accounting treatment for tax-related transactions in accordance with GAAP.
Serve as a key tax resource for Accounts Payable and Purchasing, assisting with sales and use tax questions, exemption certificates, and vendor tax issues.
Assist with the management and renewal of business licenses, registrations, and permits.
Collaborate with internal teams to improve tax processes, documentation, and internal controls.
- Process Improvement & Leadership:
Identify opportunities to streamline tax compliance processes and improve efficiency through automation and standardization.
Maintain current knowledge of relevant tax laws and regulations affecting the organization.
Identify, develop, and implement legal tax-saving strategies and advise management on tax implications for business decisions, mergers, and acquisitions.
Participates in the development of company tax policies and administers approved tax procedures.
Continually monitors direct reports to ensure all tasks are being completed within deadlines and accurately
- Non-Essential Functions:
Give training and mentoring to all direct reports.
Assesses the departments overall performance.
Cross training on essential duties of direct reports.
Perform yearly performance evaluations for all direct reports.
Track vacation requests and sick time for all direct reports.
Recommends disciplinary action when necessary
Skills & Abilities Required:
- 2-5 years of progressive tax experience, preferably in a corporate or multi-entity environment
- Several years of experience in corporate tax or public accounting
- Previous supervisory experience along with Previous experience with multi-state sales and use tax and property tax compliance strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments
- Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize work, and operate independently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of the business operations and correlation between business operations and accounting function
- Ability to mentor and train a team
- Excellent knowledge of financial and accounting software applications
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with ERP systems is a plus
- Bachelors' Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Taxation required. Masters in Taxation of Accounting preferred.
- May be required to work weekend and overtime to ensure established deadlines are met. Expected hours per week are 45-50.
