Job Title: MS SQL DBA
Role Overview:
The MS SQL Server Administrator (L1) is responsible for basic database administration tasks, monitoring, and support of Microsoft SQL Server environments. This is an entry-level role focused on maintaining database health, resolving routine issues, and escalating complex problems.
Key Responsibilities / Mandatory Skill:
- Monitor SQL Server instances for performance, availability, and security
- Perform routine database maintenance tasks (backups, index maintenance, integrity checks)
- Take and verify database backups (full, differential, log)
- Restore databases when required under guidance
- Manage user accounts, roles, and permissions
- Respond to alerts and incidents; provide first-level troubleshooting
- Monitor disk space, CPU usage, memory utilization, and SQL jobs
- Execute and monitor scheduled jobs (SQL Server Agent)
- Assist in patching and upgrade activities
- Maintain documentation of systems, processes, and incidents
- Escalate complex issues to L2/L3 DBAs
Good to have skills :
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022)
- Understanding of database concepts (tables, indexes, views, stored procedures)
- Familiarity with T-SQL (basic queries, joins, troubleshooting queries)
- Knowledge of backup and recovery concepts
- Basic understanding of performance monitoring tools
- Familiarity with Windows Server environment
Understanding of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
