Molalla High School is actively recruiting for a Head Football Coach

 

Anticipated Start Date: Fall 2026

 

JOB GOALS:

1. Help each participating student to achieve a high level of skill and knowledge of the sport.
2. Instill in the participants an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship.
3. Develop a positive working relationship with students, staff, administration, parents and community.
4. Adhere to the mission and vision of the MHS Athletic Department

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

1. Possesses a valid CPR/First Aid card.
2. Completion, upon hiring, of all District and OSAA required training courses relevant to the position.
3. Possesses a high level of competence which may include prior participation in the sport, prior coaching experience, and completion of courses and/or clinics sufficient to provide the knowledge and skill to meet the performance responsibilities described below.
4. Has experience teaching, working with, and/or coaching students of high school age.
5. Prior high school football head coaching is preferred, but not required.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Encourages good sportsmanship, fair play, ethical conduct, good scholarship and desirable pupil-teacher relationships.
2. Oversees the coordination of the 7-12 program for the particular sport, including philosophy, system of play, training of coaches, and program expectations. Oversees and develops working relationships with Molalla Youth Football which includes philosophy, system of play, training of coaches, and program expectations.
3. Provides leadership, guidance and training for the other coaches and volunteers in the high school and Molalla Youth Football programs.
4. Plans for and conducts organized practice sessions which actively involve all participants in conditioning, skill development and play practice.
5. Ensures a fair and consistent system for determining which students make the team, what level of play a participant is assigned (varsity, JV, etc.), what position a participant plays, and how much playing time a participant is given.
6. Makes recommendations to the athletic director in matters of scheduling and financing.
7. Implements an effective system for ensuring the care by the participants in his/her sport and the marking of equipment and supplies. Completes and submits to the athletic director an accurate and up-to-date inventory immediately following the close of the season.
8. Is responsible for ensuring the supervision of participants wherever they may be present, including in the locker room, playing/practice area, training rooms, and on district-provided transportation. Takes all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the participants.
9. Takes responsibility for the conduct of all players, assistant coaches and managers while under his/her jurisdiction, at home or away.

 

10. Adheres to the school and district regulations and policies regarding the conduct of coaches and student eligibility in sports. Conducts grade checks upon the request of the Athletic Director.
11. Ensures that each student is eligible for initial participation in the sport before the issuance of equipment or participation in practice
12. Maintains a record of all injuries and reports information to the athletic director's office, the high school athletic trainer and the office of the principal if the athlete may require medical attention.
13. Provides students and parents a team handbook which informs them about training rules, practice requirements, discipline procedures, lettering, and other school athletic policies immediately after team selection has been made.
14. Works constructively with colleagues and others for the purpose of improving the quality of an athlete's behavior and academic success.
15. Submits to the athletic director:
    1. A complete roster of participants in his/her sport within 5 days after beginning of practice and an updated list as changes occur.
    2. A roster, for each time, one week before the first game. (last week of Aug.)
    3. A traveling team roster by 9:00 a.m. on the morning of any away game or match.
    4. An alphabetical list of award winners immediately following the season.
    5. A preseason and post-season inventory of all equipment and uniforms
16. Oversees all fundraising activities related to his/her sport to ensure that all board policies and regulations are being followed.
17. Enforce expectations for student athletes as expressed in the Molalla High School Student Handbook.
18. Adheres to policies and procedures as expressed in the Molalla High School Coaches Handbook.
19. Performs such other tasks as may be assigned by the Board or Administration.

1. Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
2. First Aid Card
3. Bloodborne Pathogen Training

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision. (See addendum for details)

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

A one-year contract renewed at the discretion of the Board of Directors. Salary to be according to current salary schedule and extra-duty schedule agreed upon in the Certified Collective Bargaining Agreement.

 

EVALUATION:

 

The performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the athletic director.
