Description

The Facilities and Safety Manager is a working manager responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and safety compliance of Mittera’s facility or facilities. This is a hands-on leadership role: the individual is expected to actively participate in maintenance tasks alongside managing the department. The Facilities and Safety Manager owns the EHS function, oversees the maintenance team, and ensures that buildings, equipment, and infrastructure are maintained to the highest operational and safety standards. This role may involve oversight of multiple buildings or locations.

Essential Duties — Facilities & Maintenance

• Perform hands-on preventive and corrective maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and general building infrastructure

• Manage and prioritize work orders, ensuring timely response to urgent repair requests and planned maintenance schedules

• Maintain asset and equipment maintenance logs, service records, and PM schedules

• Coordinate with and manage outside contractors and vendors for specialized repairs, inspections, and capital projects

• Manage maintenance parts inventory and procurement; source and negotiate with suppliers as needed

• Oversee facility operations across multiple buildings or locations where applicable, ensuring consistent standards at each site

• Evaluate condition of building systems and infrastructure; recommend and prioritize capital improvements

• Conduct new equipment and process acceptance inspections prior to deployment

• Respond to facility emergencies including after-hours situations as required

• Ensure all facilities meet applicable building codes, fire codes, and regulatory requirements

• Recruit, interview, hire, and train maintenance staff

• Oversee daily workflow of the maintenance department and provide constructive, timely performance evaluations

• Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy

Essential Duties — Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

• Review and update health and safety procedures as needed; create and implement safety plans and ensure daily adherence

• Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations including OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, DOT, Fire Department, and Company safety rules

• Develop and improve key safety programs; conduct safety walks daily and formal site safety inspections monthly

• Lead safety committee meetings and educate employees on safety standards, expectations, and safe machinery operation

• Investigate on-site accidents and near misses; conduct root cause analysis for OSHA recordables in coordination with Regional EHS Manager

• Assist with safety compliance training including LOTO, Forklift, Electric Pallet Jack, and Machine Safeguarding

• Determine regulatory requirements and permitting needs for new and modified processes (air, hazardous/non-hazardous waste, stormwater, green initiatives)

• Conduct environmental compliance inspections including waste accumulation, stormwater, and SPCC

• Partner with Human Resources to manage OSHA 300 log and maintain documentation of safety procedures, accidents, and related events

• Act as liaison between management and external safety agencies including fire and insurance personnel

• Serve as the site representative for all EHS activities; lead Emergency Response Team training and coordination

• Analyze new equipment for operator safety; research and recommend safety equipment as needed

• Coordinate and inspect fire extinguishers, cranes/hoists, emergency lights, first aid cabinets, and eyewash stations

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Facilities Management, or a related field highly preferred

• 3–5+ years of experience in building/facilities maintenance, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity

• Hands-on experience with general building systems: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical maintenance

• Experience managing or coordinating maintenance across multiple buildings or locations preferred

• Knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations; OSHA compliance experience required

• Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) or work order management tools preferred

• Trade certifications (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing) a plus but not required

• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and work instructions

• Strong organizational skills; able to plan, prioritize, and follow through on multiple projects with minimal supervision

• Effective communicator across all levels of the organization; demonstrated leadership ability

• Self-motivated, reliable, safety-oriented, and able to perform effectively under pressure and deadlines

• Ability to anticipate problems and implement appropriate preventative measures

Physical Requirements 

· Requires use of proper body mechanics with pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling and bending

· Pushing/pulling and lifting up to 50 lbs

· Requires fine motor hand and arm movement, manual dexterity and coordination

· Requires near visual acuity

· Requires working around and operating departmental equipment

· Must be able to access and navigate each department in the facility

· Requires the ability to function in a professional manner under stressful circumstances
