About the role
The Corporate Accountant plays a key role in managing financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls within the organization. This role ensures accurate month-end close processes, statutory reporting, and financial integrity across the business.
This role will report to the Director of Property Accounting with the Finance team at the Mills Properties home office location in St. Louis, MO
Pay based on experience
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Managing general ledger reconciliations and journal entries.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and maintain monthly account analysis.
- Supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
- Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Assisting with budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
- Coordinating with auditors and providing required documentation
- Improving financial reporting processes and internal controls.
- Manage corporate bank accounts by monitoring daily balances, recording cash-related transactions, and completing monthly bank reconciliations.
- Approve, post and commit payables weekly.
- Prepare and assist with corporate bill backs to management entities
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Compliance with company accounting standards and policies.
- Efficiency in processing payables and reconciling accounts.
- Responsiveness and support to internal and external clients.
- Contribution to process improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Intermediate Excel skills (Pivot tables, lookups, etc).
- Experience with Yardi or similar ERP systems preferred
- Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
- Familiarity with corporate tax principles and reporting
- Compelling communicator at all levels (including C-level) with the ability to convey ideas and concepts concisely through interpersonal, written, and verbal communication.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
What you need
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
- Strong financial acumen and a thorough understanding of GAAP
- 3+ years of professional accounting experience
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
