The Global Transportation Analyst – Import Ocean & Customs is responsible for executing and managing inbound international ocean shipments from origin to final delivery, with a strong focus on customs clearance, compliance, and landed cost accuracy. This role ensures shipment visibility, resolves in-transit and customs exceptions, and holds freight forwarders and customs brokers accountable to service, cost, and reporting expectations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Import Ocean Execution
- Manage shipments from booking through final delivery
- Track key milestones (CRD, ETD/ETA, LFD) and resolve delays
- Align bookings with supplier readiness to prevent rolled cargo
Customs & Compliance
- Coordinate timely, accurate customs clearance
- Validate HTS, duties, tariffs, and documentation
- Resolve holds, CF28/CF29s, and support tariff programs
Exception Management
- Own daily exceptions (missing sailings, CRD changes, customs mismatches)
- Drive same-day resolution and communicate risks
Forwarder & Broker Management
- Ensure complete, accurate shipment reporting
- Hold partners accountable for execution and escalation
Cost & Data Accuracy
- Validate freight and accessorial charges (no unauthorized costs)
- Ensure customs values are accurate in ERP prior to receiving
Reporting
- Maintain shipment visibility and performance reporting
- Analyze delays, cost drivers, and partner performance
Container Utilization
- Optimize container load efficiency (CBM, weight, cube utilization)
- Identify and correct underutilized shipments
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong analytical skills; proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPointEffective verbal and written communication skills
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently
- General negotiation skillsProficient in ERP systems
- Experience with HTS tariff codes, international customs compliance, global shipping documentation, and import/export processes
- Comfortable working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and international logistics providers
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, supply chain, logistics, or quantitative fields or equivalent work experience
- 3+ years of industry supply chain, inventory management, forecasting, procurement, or logistics experience
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
