Centre for Outreach and Digital education (CODE) is the centre which coordinates all non-campus academic & outreach activities from IIT Madras.
The Role
We are looking for a Mid-Level Manager - Accounts & Finance - to oversee day-to-day accounting operations, supervise the accounts team, ensure accurate financial reporting, and manage reconciliations and balance sheet preparation. The role requires strong financial control, compliance knowledge, and the ability to coordinate across multiple projects and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities1. Financial Accounting & Reporting- Oversee preparation and finalization of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare and review Balance Sheet, Income & Expenditure Account, and Cash Flow Statements.
- Ensure timely closing of books of accounts.
- Maintain accuracy of General Ledger (GL) entries.
2. Reconciliations & Controls- Supervise bank reconciliations and inter-account reconciliations.
- Review vendor, customer, and project account reconciliations.
- Ensure periodic reconciliation of advances, grants, and project funds.
- Identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
3. Team Management- Lead and supervise accounts executives and support staff.
- Allocate tasks and ensure timely completion.
- Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting policies.
4. Compliance & Audit- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements (GST, TDS, Income Tax, PF, etc.).
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors.
- Prepare audit schedules and respond to audit queries.
- Maintain documentation for regulatory and institutional audits.
5. Budgeting & Financial Planning- Assist in preparation of annual budgets.
- Monitor budget vs actuals and provide variance analysis.
- Support financial forecasting and cash flow planning.
6. Stakeholder Coordination- Liaise with project heads, departments, vendors, and finance authorities.
- Provide financial reports and clarifications to management.
- Support senior management in decision-making with financial insights.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce/Accounting/Finance.
- CA/ CMA (Inter)/ MBA (Finance) preferred.
- 5–8 years of experience in accounting and financial management.
- Experience in handling multiple projects or institutional accounts preferred.
Key Skills & Competencies- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience in ERP/accounting software (Tally, SAP, Oracle, etc.).
- Proficiency in MS Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, Financial Analysis) & Google Suite.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
- Leadership and team management ability.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
Reporting To - Senior Manager, AccountsKey Performance Indicators (KPIs)- Timely completion of financial reports.
- Accuracy in reconciliations and balance sheet preparation.
- Zero major audit observations.
- Effective team productivity and compliance adherence.

Remuneration - based on industry standards
Please Note:
- This is a full time position. Selected candidates have to work from the IIT Madras office. Working hours will be Mon-Fri 9am to 6:30pm. Weekend follow-up work will be there on a need basis.
- Accommodation in Chennai has to be arranged by the candidate. Accommodation within the IIT Madras campus is not given.
- This is not a permanent job position either with the Central Government of India or IIT Madras.
